Seeing Dany staring hard at the documents on the floor, Nina broke into a cold sweat. When she saw his Adam's apple bob as if he was about to speak, she panicked and raised her voice sharply.
"Dany, I know you're going to find Lucy. That's why I didn't want you to know where she is. I want you all to myself. Even if you hate me for being selfish, I don't care."
As she spoke, her eyes reddened with fake emotion. Only when Dany's gaze finally lifted from the floor did her heart settle.
Then Nina buried her tearful face in his chest, her trembling voice full of grievance.
"Dany, didn't you say you couldn't marry me because Lucy was in the way? Now she's gone on her own, and I'm pregnant. Can't we just live happily as a family of three?"
