Chapter 9: The Investigation Unfolds

261 Words
Jameson's phone buzzed as he walked out of the shop. It was Rodriguez, her voice urgent. "We've got something on the victim's phone records," she said. "A number kept calling her, and it's linked to a local address. We need to check it out." Jameson quickly made his way to the address, his mind racing with possibilities. When he arrived, he found Rodriguez already there, talking to a nervous-looking individual. "This is Alex," Rodriguez said. "He claims to know the victim, but he's not being very cooperative." Jameson took over, his tone firm but controlled. "Alex, we need to know what you know. The victim was murdered, and we're running out of time." Alex hesitated, then began to talk. "I didn't kill her, I swear. We were friends, and she was investigating something big. She said she had proof of a conspiracy, but she wouldn't tell me what it was." Jameson's eyes narrowed. A conspiracy? This case just kept getting deeper. "What did she tell you, Alex?" he pressed. Alex glanced around nervously. "She mentioned something about the woods, and a hidden truth. She said she was getting close to the truth, but she was scared." The pieces were starting to fall into place, but Jameson knew they still had a long way to go. He thanked Alex for his cooperation and promised to look into the conspiracy angle. As they left the address, Jameson turned to Rodriguez. "I think we're getting close to the truth," he said. "But I have a feeling we're not the only ones looking for it."
