Chapter 2-Leo

778 Words
Leo woke up groggy on Monday morning, probably because he was on patrol until 3 a.m. last night. He always liked when he had to patrol late. Leo was familiar with the Oakwood Forest, having grown up there his whole life. His werewolf pack, the Oakwood Pack, has been in charge of patrolling the Oakwood Forest for over 250 years. Leo is not sure exactly what they are patrolling for, or if they even need to protect the Forest, but the Elders always say, "you'll know it when you see it."  Lately the Elders have increased the number of patrols, hence why Leo is waking up groggy on a Monday morning. He shuffles out of bed and heads to the bathroom to get ready for school. Today is his last Monday of high school, ever. Leo goes to the same high school as most of his pack, Edgemont High. The kids at Edgemont tend to avoid the pack, as if they inherently know that there is something different about the werewolves.  Frankly, Leo is looking forward to leaving high school and being able to begin his training as an Omega in the pack. Even though Leo is the son of the Alpha, the pack hierarchy is one that is earned. Leo is looking forward to being able to earn his spot in the pack, and to learn how to be one of the soldiers. A lot of the Omegas he knows are truly honorable wolves, and he cannot wait to be by their side marching along.  after his shower, Leo shuffled downstairs for a quick breakfast bar and then headed to the door. His friend Johnny was already outside in his car waiting for him. Getting up to the door, Johnny yells out at him, "Jesus, could you make us any more late, pick up the pace Leo."  Rolling his eyes, Leo climbs into the front seat of the car. Before he even fully closes the door, Johnny starts speeding off. Even though Leo has a car of his own, him and Johnny have been carpooling together since they turned 16. They alternate who drives depending on who had to patrol at night. It makes it easier for the person who was up at night not to have to worry about traffic or focusing on driving.  Because of Johnny's insane driving, they end up at school with ten minutes to spare before the bell rings. When they pull up to school, Johnny parks in the usual spot. Together the two of them head to where the pack usually hangs out in the mornings. Johnny's mate Cynthia immediately walks up to them and wraps her arms around Johnny's waste. Leo tries not to roll his eyes. Ever since the two of them mated last year, they have been annoying to be around for everyone else. It's like they only think of the other person when they're around each other, and the whole rest of the world disappears. Really freaking annoying to be the rest of the world.  Cynthia's friend Lucy walks up to Leo. She has always had a huge crush on Leo, but ever since Cynthia and Johnny mated, she has been way more aggressive toward Leo. It's almost as if she expects to mate with any moment now. Leo politely adds some distance and opens his body up toward the whole group. He makes eye contact with Kevin, who was also on patrol with him last night. Kevin was patrolling the southern border of the Forest, so he looks at him and starts up a conversation before Lucy can get too many ideas--"See anything on your end last night?" he says to Kevin.  "Nah, everything was normal as per usual. What about you?" he asked back.  "Same. Still not entirely sure what we are even looking for, but guess we will know it when we see it eh?'  With that, the bell rang, and Leo successfully avoided another awkward situation of Lucy throwing herself at him. Walking toward his locker and first class, he silently congratulated himself on avoiding Lucy and on attending his final Monday of high school. He just knew it was going to be a drag. All he was really looking forward to was the Omega initiation on Friday night. Friday was his final day of high school, and that night, all the wolves that are 18 and eligible can begin the initiation into the Omegas. Leo still was not sure what the initiation entailed--the details of it are kept strictly secret--but every time he thought of it, his body rumbled a little bit with anticipation. "Only four more days," he said to himself.
