Tony Marino drank his morning coffee and considered how much had happened since the border was closed. He was focused on Kirstin, how he could help her, and was so preoccupied he didn’t turn on the radio to catch the baseball scores. She hadn’t really asked for much, but he suspected she would once she trusted him. And when he thought about her predicament, he realized she really didn’t have anyone else to turn to. He had never had anyone so dependent on him before, especially for their own survival. Or maybe he had, but never realized it.
