“What are you doing?” Steiner asked.
“I was getting some papers,” Kirstin replied.
“Standing by the window in a dark room?” he asked suspiciously.
“I was checking to see if the wall was finished.”
“It’s been done for days,” he said. “You know that.”
She felt beads of sweat on the back of her neck. “But they’re still building the watch tower.”
“Why did you turn the light out when I walked in?” he asked, glaring at her.
She tried to think of an excuse but couldn’t. She walked toward him, so he wouldn’t come near the bookshelf and find the chalkboard shoved behind it.
