My name is Tanisha and I am twenty-four years old with long brown curly hair and blue eyes and this is my story.
Tanisha, you need to hurry up or we'll be late, Natasha shouted from the kitchen. Give me a few more minutes, I'm almost done, I responded. How is it that you are always responsible for us being late, Natasha asked? Ouch and we won't be late, it's still early, I said walking out of the bathroom pulling my blouse on. What is taking so long, she asked. I just finished my makeup, I said picking up my handbag and checking the time. The car is parked outside, let's hurry up, Natasha said. Why are you always in such a rush, I asked? I just don't understand why you have to wear makeup sweetie, I mean you have the perfect brunette curls and gorgeous skin, not to mention those baby blues and long lashes, she said pulling into the traffic and headed to the office. Thank you for the complement but I have to look perfect for my first day of work. I still can't believe I found a job so quickly. I've hardly been back three weeks. I said.
As Natasha parks the car and we get out I see the name on the building, Max Enterprise, I read out loud. Remind me again why they added a party planning department, I asked. The owner decided to expand beyond just entertainment and music. He said that party planning has everything to do with entertainment and music so why not, she answered.
As we enter the building, we are met by the receptionist. Good morning ladies. Morning Lexie, Natasha greets and I just smile at her. Lexie this is Tanisha, it's her first day here. Would you be a doll and take her up to human resources? I'm running a little late already and Ethan has been keeping an eye on me lately, Natasha says. Sure thing, let me just get a cordless and we can go she tells me and walks back to her desk.
When she's ready she gestures for me to follow her and we get in the elevator. So human resources are on the eleventh floor, she says pushing the button with the number eleven on. I smile and nod my head at her. How long have you worked here, I asked? Going on six years now. Can't believe it’s been this long already, she answers with a smile. That is a long time for someone as young as you, I said. I started working here when I was sixteen. I fell pregnant and my parents kicked me out of the house. She said with a sad look on her face. I'm sorry for reminding you of hard times in your life, I said. Don't worry about it. Ethan's dad took pity on me back then and hired me on the spot. He's a very kind man, she added. So, I take it that Ethan is the owner, I ask. He sure is, she says just as the elevator opens on the floor we were headed to. I follow Lexie as she walks to an office and knocks on the door and waits a few seconds. Come in, the voice says. Lexie opens the door and we both walk in. Good morning Andrew, Lexie says to the guy sitting behind the desk. Good morning Lexie and company, he says looking at me and smiles.
Andrew this is Tanisha, she's the new girl Ashton hired for the party planning department. Andrew looks at me and thanks Lexie for bringing me up. As soon as Lexie leaves his office he asked me to sit down. I have a few documents I need you to sign before I take you to your new office, he says walking over to where I'm sitting. This is just a standard contract, you can sign here, it just shows what your monthly salary will be, as he shows me where, my eyes grow big. Are you sure these figures are correct, I ask. I assure you they are. Everything was double checked by me personally, he answers with a smile. I nod and sign on the dotted line. Then the rest is just standard as you surely know. Just explain obvious such as when you resign or get yourself fired, what the proper process is to follow and so on. I sign the last page and hand it back to him. He takes it and hand me the next paper. This you need to fill in your details so that I can get it to head of security, otherwise you won't be able to come in to work tomorrow, he says and laughs. I c**k my head to the side not understanding what he meant. He laughs again and begin to explain. We had a security breech a couple weeks back and as of tomorrow everyone will have a ID card that they have to scan when they enter the building. The scanners and such are being installed later today. I see, I said filling in the two-page document with all my personal details. Once we were finished with all the paper work he asked me to follow him and we headed for the elevator. The new department is on the twenty-third floor, he said pushing the number twenty-three button. It was a quiet ride up, not one of us saying anything. When the doors opened he started walking with me following close behind him. He walked up to the only two people on this floor. Tanisha this is Desmond and Amanda. Desmond is the venue organizer and Amanda here is the receptionist and personal assistant to you, he says. It's a pleasure to meet the both of you, I said shaking both of their hands. Now, if you would excuse us, I need to show Tanisha her office, Andrew said and smiled at them both before walking away. I waved at them and followed him once again. When we walked past the elevator the doors opened and the most handsomely man comes walking out. I couldn't help but look at him. His eyes are a bright emerald green and a body to die for. Andrew opens a door pulls my attention from the hunk that just arrived. So this will be your office, he says. I look around shocked. Why would a lousy party planner need an office like this for, I ask? You are not just a lousy party planner Tanisha; you will be the Head of this department. Your resume was by far the best we received out of the thousands and it was decided to make you head of the department, he explains. This is such an amazing opportunity and a great privilege, thank you, I said. I will leave you to get settled. Someone will come get you for lunch and show you around some more, he says as he leaves my office.
I've been unpacking boxes and organizing my new office for a couple hours now when there is a sudden knock on the door. Come on in, I said loudly. Hi little worker bee, Natasha says walking in. Andrew asked me to come get you and show you the cafeteria where we all have lunch every day, she explains. Thank goodness, I'm starving, I say standing up from the ground where I was sitting. Love your office by the way, she said as she picks up an empty box. Why don't you ask Amanda to get rid of the empty boxes for you, she asks? I was going to ask her but didn't notice the time. Will ask her after lunch, I answer. As we walk out of my office Amanda comes over. Tanisha is there anything you need, she asks. I need you to remove all the empty boxes from my office but you can do it after lunch, I said. Sure thing, she responds with a smile.
As Natasha and I arrive at the cafeteria, it's buzzing with people and in the far right corner I spot those emerald eyes watching me. I can get lost in those eyes, I say out loud without realizing. Natasha looks in the direction I'm looking and shakes her head, dream on girl. No one in this company is good enough for him. Besides he seems to like being alone. No one has ever seen him with a woman and also never seen him with a man. I shake my head and look at her. I didn't say I was interested, I just said I could get lost in his eyes. They are so beautiful.
After lunch I thank Natasha for lunch and head to the elevator to get back to my office. As I get in the elevator, Mr. Emerald eyes is also in the elevator and just staring at me. I smile at him and press the button to my floor. Just as the elevator started to move the power went out and it was dark inside the elevator. My heart starts to pound in my chest and my breathing got heavy. Are you alright, came his husky voice. N... no, I have small spaces, I respond. Cluster phobic, he asks. Y... yes, I've always had it. Since childhood, I answer. I can hear him coming closer and then he takes my hand, sparks shoot up my arm and I'm a little startled but also started relaxing a bit. Take a deep breath and try to relax for me, comes his voice again. I take a deep breath and feel my heart slowing down a little. He pulls me down to the floor and I sit next to him. Feeling any better, he asks. I little, thank you. I had the same problem as a child but I learned how to cope with it. That's how I'm managing to help you now, he says squeezing my hand. More sparks shoot up my arm and I lean into him. He freezes a second but relaxes and holds my hand tighter. He takes a deep breath, what are you, he asks. I don't know what you mean, I answer. Well, I know for a fact that you aren't human and you aren't a werewolf so what are you, he asks again. Are you a werewolf, I ask? Can't you smell it on me, he asks. I don't know what to smell for. I didn't know anyone else was able to tell that I am different, I said. How can you not smell my wolf, I mean as a wolf we smell very different from whatever you are and all humans smell the same. Has no one ever taught you any of this, he asks worried. Who should have taught me anything, I ask. Your parents. It's genetic, you are born a shifter like a wolf. I can smell that you are also a shifter but nothing that I've ever smelt before, he says. My parents died in a car accident when I was 4 years old. I was adopted not too long after. I've only shifted once and never again. I thought there was something wrong with me so no one knows what I am. I don't even know what I am. I will help you figure this out, he says to me and squeezes my hand sending more sparks up my arm. Why do I feel sparks every time you squeeze my hand, I ask? Let's deal with one thing at a time, he responds getting up and pulling me to my feet. What are you doing, I ask? Getting the both of us out of here, he says jumping and punching something and then I hear something open up. Did you break something; I ask? Yes, the air vent in the roof. Won't the owner of the company be pissed at you for doing that, I ask. Baby, I am the owner of this company, he responds with a husky voice. You mean to say that you are Ethan, I ask. In the flesh, he responds. Now give me your hand so I can pull you up, he says. I reach my hand up and he grabs it pulling me up as if I weigh nothing. What are we doing, I ask? Follow close behind me, he says. How do you want me to follow you if I can hardly see anything in the dark, I ask? Just focus and put all your energy towards your eyes, he says. I try to focus and sure enough, I can see everything up here. Wow, this is awesome. Its dark, yet I see so much, I say. You have a lot to lean, he says laughing and taking my hand again sending sparks up my arm yet again. What is this feeling I get every time he touches me? I follow Ethan up a ladder and soon we are outside on the roof of his building.
Ethan turns and looks at me with a smile on his face. Why are you smiling like that, I ask? You have absolutely no idea how happy I am to be here with you, he says. Why would you be happy to be up here with someone you hardly know, I ask. Remember you asked about the sparks earlier, he reminds me. I do, I answer. Lesson 1 starts now, he says. I nod my head and sit down.
Shifters have life mates, a life partner if you will. When a shifter turns twenty-one they are of age to meet their mates. When you see your mate for the first time, it's like time stands still, the earth stops moving and no one except you and your mate exists in that moment. Their smell is so alluring that you just want to inhale it all the time. When mates touch each other there is this bond that starts forming and your whole body reacts. Some says it feels like sparks, others say it feels like tingles. I guess it depends on who you are. My mother once explained to me that when my father touched her for the first time, it felt like an explosion of fireworks on her body. Him being an alpha makes the bond between them just that much stronger and I guess that's why people experience the touch differently. I'm alpha by blood but I haven't taken over that pack from my dad yet. That only happens after I turn twenty-five, he stops explaining so that I can process.
After a minute or so I find my voice again. Are you trying to tell me that we are mates, I ask? He smiles and takes my hand again. The sparks are instant and I have my answer. I knew you were my mate the second I stepped out of the elevator this morning to speak with Desmond and Amanda. When you looked at me and you lost all coherent thought and didn't realize Andrew was still talking to you, I knew you felt it too, he says smiling. I just thought I was extremely attracted to you, I say. Oh baby you are but in more ways than you realize, he responds with a smile. Is everyone at the company shifters, I ask. No, most are human, your friend Natasha is part of my pack. She never once mentioned that she's a shifter, I said. I don't think Natasha realized that you are a shifter. I think to her you smell more human because you were probably raised by humans. I could smell you are a shifter because I have a high rank. Andrew also knew because he will be my third in command, Ethan explained. How many shifters are in your pack, I ask? We are about two thousand members but we don't all live on pack grounds. We all get together once every four months for a pack party to help members who became of age to try find their mates. Some are lucky enough to find their mate in our pack, others find their mates while at college or while visiting other packs. When a male of a pack finds his mate at a different pack she joins the pack he belongs to and so our pack keeps growing yearly, he explains. This mate thing is a pretty big deal isn't it, I ask. It is, he answers looking at his watch. What's wrong, I ask. It's after five already, he says. Have we really been up here that long, I ask? Spending time learning new things makes time fly past quickly, he says. Natasha should be waiting for you already, he says. Let me take you to her and then you can go home. We can talk some more tomorrow although I would have loved for you to come to the Pack house with me, he says hopeful.
I would love to see the Pack house, I say excited. He smiles from ear to ear. Why aren't you freaked out by all of the information that I've shared with you, he asks. I guess me thinking that I was a freak of nature for the last four years helps with the information overload. I'm not alone and I'm glad to know I'm not the only freak of nature, I say laughing at the look on his face. We are not freaks of nature; we are born like this. We are just more special than humans, he says.
Let's go before Natasha starts to worry about me, I say. I already let her know that you are with me and that I'm taking you to the Pack house for the evening, he says. How... you haven't touched your phone once since we've been up here, I ask shocked. He laughed. You are finally shocked by something. It's called mind link but that is a lesson for later. Let's leave before it gets dark. I have so much to show you before it gets too late. Natasha will also be at the Pack house so that she can see her parents and siblings. You will be able to finally meet them now that we know that you are a shifter too, Ethan says taking my hand and leading me down the stairs and to his car.
