Chapter 8Applegate Manor, Vale of Evesham
Simon was not startled when, despite arriving in Worcestershire late evening, as soon as the servants were asleep, Anthony joined him in his bedroom. Although Simon usually travelled with Anthony, it was only for companionship as they could not risk sharing a bed at an inn for fear of getting caught together.
Anthony put his arms around Simon, kissing his neck in the way he knew his lover could not resist, murmuring in his ear, “It’s good to be home. I have missed you so.”
For a moment, Simon responded to those ardent caresses then steeled himself saying, “First, we have to talk.”
Anthony rolled on his back with a sigh as Simon turned on his side to face him.
“Did Lottie agree to your proposal this time?” Simon asked.
“She did,” Anthony repli
