Everyone is waiting outside. I had to go and check up on them to see if everything was fine. It wasn’t. Annemkept crying in a way I’d never seen her cry before. I knew they were happy tears but heck if seeing her in that state didn’t make me mad at myself.
It wasn’t my fault. I knew it wasn’t. There was next to nothing I could find out about Baba. But come to think of it, I should’ve checked this hospital when I’d heard my uncle was fatally ill.
I’m kind of starting to join the dots when Baba suddenly slides his hand out of mine, making a pained noise. I’m about to flee to get the nurse but when I see his eyes open, I clamp my mouth shut.
Baba’s eyes meet mine right away and despite the pain, despite all that time separating us, he smiles widely, tears glistening in his eyes.
