Chapter 7: On the Prowl

"Pick me, Grandma! I’m ready to go!" "Let me handle it, Grandma, I have plenty of negotiation experience!" "I’m willing to go too!" Everyone present, whether they could negotiate or not, eagerly raised their hands. But among them, only Ms. Walker remained silent, knowing full well that even if she volunteered, the chance to negotiate this cooperation wouldn’t fall to her. The Walker family matriarch surveyed the enthusiastic crowd, nodding subtly with a hint of a smile, and pointed to Harry standing nearby. "I think this time, we should let Harry have the opportunity." "Harry, you go to Vision Entertainment Group tomorrow and have a talk." "Thank you, Grandma." Harry quickly ran up to the stage to help the Walker matriarch down, his grin stretched wide. After returning home, Christopher went to bed early. Reflecting on the events of the past two days, he felt at peace. He used to be broke, but now that he had money, all problems seemed to vanish. Now that he had money, Christopher felt a newfound confidence and slept soundly that night. The next morning, Christopher woke up early, prepared breakfast, tidied up, and then rode his newly purchased electric scooter towards Vision Entertainment Group. Upon waking, he had received a message from his uncle, informing him that Michelle, the CEO's secretary, was already waiting for him at the company. The feeling was fantastic, and Christopher whistled cheerfully as he arrived at the Vision Entertainment Group building. Vision Entertainment Group was situated in the most bustling area of Riverwest City, and this Vision Tower was developed by the Bennett family's real estate company. Looking at the row of luxury cars at the entrance, Christopher found a parking spot, locked his scooter, and headed towards the main entrance. "No way, I'm an executive now. I can't keep riding a scooter to work. It’s too undignified. What if one of the company's artists sees me? I'd be a laughingstock." As Christopher walked, he was lost in thought. Suddenly, he heard the screech of tires behind him, followed by a resounding "crash!" Turning around, he saw a Mercedes G-Class had made intimate contact with his scooter. The massive, heavy body of the G-Class had rolled right over it, crushing the scooter beneath its weight. The scooter, unable to bear the load, was snapped in two. Oh no, my brand-new scooter! Now it’s completely totaled! Not even repairable. What bad luck! Why does everything seem to be against my scooter? The loud crash drew the attention of passersby, who gathered around, eager to watch the drama unfold. At that moment, the door of the Mercedes G-Class swung open, and a tall woman wearing sunglasses stepped out. "This parking spot isn’t for scooters. Didn’t you know that?" "Wow, she's both beautiful and cool." "This lady is wild, driving a G-Class." The exclamations were endless, especially when the woman removed her sunglasses, reaching a crescendo. "Lily?" Christopher frowned, surprised that she had really come to the company to sign a contract. He had considered holding her accountable, but knowing she was about to become a company artist, he decided not to make a fuss. After all, an artist's image was crucial. Before Christopher could speak, Lily chimed in, "Look at that wreck of a scooter. If it punctured my tire, how would you cover the cost?" Lily was distressed. This G-Class had cost over two million and was less than a week old, and now it was scratched. Especially with the scooter crushed under the tire, what if it punctured the tire? How much would it cost to replace it? "My scooter was parked and didn’t move. You hit it..." Christopher shrugged helplessly. "How can you turn this around on me?" "What are you all standing around for?" At this moment, a group of security guards marched over, their presence demanding attention. The lead security guard squeezed through the crowd, his eyes landing on the electric scooter crushed under the massive wheels of the G-Class. He paused, incredulous at the thought that the scooter could have collided with the G-Class. The woman was stunning, driving a vehicle worth over two million—clearly someone he couldn't afford to offend. In a flash, the security guard made his decision. "Where did you come from? Don’t you know you can’t park electric scooters at the entrance of Vision Entertainment?" he barked at Christopher, pointing a finger at him. "You'd better clear out your scooter, or I'll be forced to take action." "Oh, look at you, throwing your weight around!" Christopher's eyes turned icy as he stared back. "I'm standing right here today, let's see what you can do!" "I said no, so it's a no!" the security guard retorted arrogantly. "If you don't cooperate, don't blame me for what happens next." Behind him, the other guards were already gripping their batons, ready to dish out some pain if Christopher didn't comply. "I'm here to sign a contract with Vision Entertainment, and on my first day, my car gets hit. If this is how the company handles security, I'll be sure to report it once I'm signed," Liu Rui said coolly, crossing her arms. The security guard's heart skipped a beat, realizing she was a newly signed artist. If he didn't satisfy her, his position as head of security could be in jeopardy. With that realization, he quickly scurried over to Liu Rui, nodding and bowing. "I'm so sorry, miss. This was my mistake. I'll make it right. Please, don't be upset." "Hmm," Liu Rui replied softly, her arms still crossed, waiting to see how he would handle the situation. After plastering on a smile, the security guard whipped around to Christopher, his demeanor shifting as he barked, "I order you to apologize to this beautiful lady, or you'll be sorry!" "It's not my fault, so why should I apologize?" Christopher sneered. "Besides, I'm an employee of Vision Entertainment too. What gives you the right to order me around?" "You're an employee too?" The security guard was taken aback, scrutinizing Christopher. He couldn't recall seeing this guy before. "Christopher, enough with your nonsense. Just to save your pathetic male pride, you lie about being an employee of Vision Entertainment. It's embarrassing," Liu Rui scoffed at Christopher. "Fine, let's pretend you're an employee. He might not have the authority over you, but surely the company's deputy director does?" With that, Liu Rui pulled out her phone, made a quick call, and hung up. Soon, a woman in a business suit, heels clicking on the pavement, emerged from the company. This woman, in her early thirties, was well-maintained, her skin fair. If not for the faint crow's feet at the corners of her eyes, Christopher would have thought she was in her twenties. "Director Xu." As Xu Fang appeared, all the security guards froze. They hadn't expected this new artist to know the deputy director of Vision Entertainment. The security guard breathed a sigh of relief. "Good thing I didn't mess up. With her connections, if she casually mentioned something to Director Xu, my position could be gone in a flash." "Cousin," Liu Rui hurried over to Xu Fang. She owed her contract with Vision Entertainment to her cousin Xu Fang. Without this connection, getting into Vision wouldn't have been easy. Sure, her looks were an asset, but in the entertainment industry, beauty was everywhere, making her just another face in the crowd. Xu Fang nodded, her gaze sweeping the crowd. "Who's Christopher?" she inquired. "That's him," Liu Rui pointed at Christopher standing to the side. Xu Fang turned to Christopher. "Apologize to Liu Rui now." What? Apologize to her? Is this a joke? Christopher's lips curled into a smile, but his eyes turned to ice. "Do you even know the whole story? If you don't, maybe you should find out before making such statements." "Man, this guy's got some nerve, talking to Director Xu like that," one of the security guards whispered. "You're as clueless as a deer in headlights! In Vision Entertainment, it's better to cross a big star than to mess with Fiona. That's not just idle talk." Fiona paused, her brows furrowing as she pointed at Christopher. "I don't care which department you're from or whose person you are. But I can tell you this: from now on, you're no longer part of Vision Entertainment. You're fired! Apologize to Lily and scram." What? Get lost? This was the most ridiculous thing Christopher had heard all day, and he couldn't help but burst into laughter. "He's completely lost his marbles," Lily said, looking at Christopher with the disdain reserved for a pesky fly. "Today is supposed to be a great day for my signing with Vision Entertainment, and I run into a lunatic like you. Just my luck. I'm letting you off the hook, but get out of my sight now." Standing nearby, Fiona gave the security captain a knowing look. The captain nodded, gesturing with his hand. "Grab this guy and take him to the security office." Following orders, the group surrounded Christopher, eyeing him like a pack of wolves on the hunt. Just then, a loud honk blared from behind the crowd. A Rolls-Royce screeched to a halt in front of them. A young woman, barely in her twenties and dressed in a sharp black business suit, stepped out of the car. She pushed past the guards blocking her way, approached Christopher, and said respectfully, "Mr. Bennett, my apologies for being late."
