Lucien’s car slowed to a halt as he pulled up in front of Anderson's house.
He stepped out, his gaze lifted… and froze.
The gate stood shut, secured with a heavy chain. A bold notice had been affixed neatly across the front door.
PROPERTY REPOSSESSED
Beneath it were official seals, stamped authorizations, and a formal declaration:
> This property has been repossessed following default on a secured collateral agreement, in accordance with Canadian financial enforcement statutes and applicable provincial regulations.
Lucien’s jaw tightened.
“No…” he whispered, taking a hesitant step forward, as though proximity might somehow rewrite reality.
