ELEANOR
Waking up with a stretch makes me cry out instead and quickly go static. I take in quick breaths, as I try to make a mental note of why my whole body aches so bad.
I feel heavy and shattered. Even trying to lift my legs leaves me wincing in acute pain. I recall having a deadly migraine last night. But the pain seems to have vanished. Or maybe it passed to my body, especially between my inner thighs. I feel terribly sore down there and I can't figure out why.
Halfway trying to figure out what predicament I am in, I take notice of the exquisite chandelier hanging directly above me.
It kicks off a maddening curiosity, making me quickly sit up, completely ignoring the pain that came with it.
The room. The ravishing decor. The spacious luxury it has. Everything about it sends my heart and head into a confusing spiraling effect.
Events of last night invades my mind in flashes and noises but then the spiraling ends as I finally get a grip on how I ended up here.
Van. Jake. That's right. I came here to meet Jake. He was here, next to me on this bed last night. Recalling that gives me a bit of peace.
I look at the spot where he lay but it's empty. The ruffled effects are the only sign that he really was here next to me, even though he's gone now. To the bathroom?
I get off the bed but I'm horrified by the blood stain on it. I gasp, realizing what it means and why I feel so sore.
Jake had s*x with me last night. Tears well up in my eyes, making me weak at the knee.
Jake and I have been together for two years, and he's never for once complained about my decision not to have s*x until we were officially mated to each other.
He told me he understood and respected my decision. So why did he do that to me last night? Of all the nights, why did he choose the night when my senses were fried and I had no clue of what was happening?
Beating myself up right now won't solve anything. But talking to Jake will. I need to know exactly what went down between the both of us last night.
I check the bathroom and it's empty. Taking out my phone, I try calling his number but it's not reachable. With tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart, I pick up my bag and leave the suite.
Walking into the lounge filled with a handful of people leaves me so embarrassed. Now I know why they call it a walk of shame. It sure is shameful.
I take a taxi to Jake's apartment. Nearing his door, I dry my tears and cling to the last shred of hope that he would have a logical explanation for what happened and I wouldn't be so crushed by it.
My little hope however fades into thin air at the voices wafting from his apartment. The first one is his, and he's shouting. He seems very angry. A kind of anger he's never shown me before.
The second voice sounds so much like Van's. What is she doing here so early? What could they be arguing about that they both seemed so angry?
I turn the doorknob but her voice forces me to a halt.
"Oh yeah, then let me spill a bit of tea for you. Eleanor is a slut and no longer a virgin!"
What? I retrieve my hand from the doorknob.
"She spent last night at a hotel with her lover. Now how about that?!"
Hot tears make their way down my eyes. Her words smash into my head and mind. Leaving me dumbfounded.
"That's a f*****g lie," Jake chuckles. It sounds a bit dark. A huge contrast to the bright and cheerful guy I've dated for two years. "Eleanor is no slut. She's still a virgin, whose p***y is reserved just for me."
"Really? Then why did she give it to some random guy last night?!"
A random guy. So it wasn't Jake last night, but some random guy? Oh, goodness. I clasp my mouth with my hands, holding down my cries.
"Stop trying so hard to always make her look bad in my eyes. Because it'll never work. Eleanor is nothing like you." Jake defends in a very cocky tone.
Muffling my sobs makes me shaky and almost choking on my tears. But I try not to make a sound.
"Nothing like me? What am I?" Van asks, and I hear her striding across the room or something. But she moved her feet.
Jakes scoffs. "You're a slut, Van. A shameless, stupid slut."
I gasp. Is that really Jake? How can he say such mean words to her? He's never the type to use such words. But then again, I guess I never really knew him well enough.
And Van whom I thought I knew has just shown me how blindly trusting and dense I've been. What did she feed me last night that made me lose my senses that way?
It's pretty clear she master-minded everything last night and I so blindly fell into her scheme.
"I may be a slut. But I'm your slut. I lost my virginity to you, Jake. You're the first and only guy I've ever f****d. So don't you dare criticize me right now!" Van yells.
My eyes pop out in shock. Van…and Jake? They're…it's so hard to say the word. It'll crush me into pieces. I can't say it. I shouldn't.
"That doesn't change anything," Jake retorts in some sort of formidable anger. "And may I remind you that you chose to give me that virginity. I didn't ask for it. I didn't put a gun to your head. It was all your choice. So don't you dare try to use it against me. It's not gonna work."
I pick up my trembling body, trying to muster the courage to leave. I can't go in there. What do I say to them? How do I react, after finding out such fetal betrayal?
My heart is still pounding fiercely. Tears are choking me. I'm far from okay. I don't know if I'll survive what I just found out. Confronting them will only destroy me completely.
The buzzing sound of my phone distracts me from my misery a bit. I check the caller and my eyes dilate. It's Jake. He's calling me.
"Eleanor's at the f*****g door!" Jake hisses, and I hear his footsteps approaching the door.
"What?!" Van shrieks.
I run out of the apartment and jump into the first, empty taxi I see. Jake already made it out and he's shirtless. He looks so disconcerted but the taxi is already moving, taking me away from him and whatever lies he might wanna feel my head with.
"Where are you headed, Miss?" The driver asks, peering at me through the mirror.
I can't go back to my apartment with Van. They'll find me there and right now, it's best to avoid them. For my sanity's sake.
"To the orphanage," I reply, in tears.
