Sophia's father sneered, but Lucas could see the faintest glimmer of uncertainty in his eyes. "You think you can protect him, Sophia?" he spat. "You think you can save a monster like Lucas?"
Sophia stood tall, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I'm not going to let you hurt him," she said, her voice firm. "He's not a monster. He's just different."
Lucas felt a surge of gratitude towards Sophia. She was risking everything to protect him, and he knew he could never repay her for that.
But before Sophia's father could respond, a loud growling sound echoed through the clearing. Lucas's heart sank as he realized that he was losing control. His body was starting to shift, his senses growing sharper.
Sophia's eyes locked onto Lucas's, and he saw a flash of fear there. But then, her face hardened, and she grabbed Lucas's hand again. "Come on," she whispered, pulling him away from the hunters. "We have to get out of here. Now."
Lucas nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew Sophia was right. They had to get out of there, before he lost control completely. But as they turned to run, Lucas felt a searing pain in his shoulder. Sophia's father had shot him.
Lucas stumbled, his vision blurring. But Sophia's grip on his hand held him up. "Keep running," she whispered, her voice urgent. "I've got you."
And with that, they disappeared into the trees, leaving the hunters and Sophia's parents behind.
As they ran, Lucas could feel the pain in his shoulder growing, but he refused to give up. Sophia's grip on his hand kept him going, and he knew he had to protect her.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they reached the safety of Lucas's cabin. Sophia locked the door behind them and helped Lucas onto the couch.
"We have to get you treated," she said, her eyes scanning his wound. "This is going to need stitches."
Lucas nodded, wincing in pain. "There's a first aid kit in the bathroom," he said. "Can you get it for me?"
Sophia nodded and rushed off to the bathroom. Lucas watched her go, feeling a surge of gratitude towards her. She had saved his life, and he knew he could never repay her for that.
As Sophia returned with the first aid kit, Lucas saw a look of determination on her face. "We're going to get through this, Lucas," she said. "Together."
Lucas smiled, feeling a sense of hope for the first time in hours. Maybe, just maybe, they could make it through this after all.
Sophia quickly got to work, cleaning and dressing Lucas's wound with a skilled touch. Lucas watched her, impressed by her composure and expertise.
As she worked, Lucas couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at Sophia's bravery and selflessness. She had risked everything to save him, and he knew he could never repay her for that.
Once Sophia had finished treating Lucas's wound, she sat back and looked at him with a serious expression. "We need to talk," she said. "About what just happened."
Lucas nodded, knowing that they couldn't avoid the truth forever. "I know," he said. "I'm sorry, Sophia. I never meant to put you in danger."
Sophia shook her head. "You didn't," she said. "My parents did. They've been hunting you for years, Lucas. They're determined to destroy you."
Lucas felt a chill run down his spine. He had known that Sophia's parents were dangerous, but he had never realized just how far they would go.
"What do we do now?" Lucas asked, feeling a sense of uncertainty.
Sophia's expression was grim. "We go into hiding," she said. "We have to keep you safe, Lucas. At least until we can figure out what to do next."
Lucas nodded, knowing that Sophia was right. They had to be careful, had to stay one step ahead of Sophia's parents if they were going to survive.
As they sat there, trying to come up with a plan, Lucas heard a faint noise outside. At first, he thought it was just the wind, but then he heard it again - the sound of footsteps, crunching through the underbrush.
Sophia's eyes locked onto Lucas's, and he saw a flash of fear there. "What was that?" she whispered.
Lucas shook his head. "I don't know," he said, his heart pounding in his chest. "But I think we should be careful."
Suddenly, the door to the cabin burst open, and a figure loomed in the doorway. Lucas's heart sank as he saw Sophia's father standing there, his eyes blazing with hatred.
"You're a hard man to find, Lucas," Sophia's father sneered. "But now that I've found you, you're not going anywhere."
Lucas knew they were in grave danger. Sophia's father was not going to stop until he had destroyed him. And Lucas knew he had to protect Sophia, no matter what.
Lucas stepped forward, his body beginning to shift and contort. Sophia's father took a step back, his eyes widening in shock as Lucas transformed into a werewolf.
But this was no ordinary transformation. Lucas's body grew and expanded, his muscles bulging beneath his sleek white fur. He was twice the size of a human, his eyes glowing bright yellow in the darkness.
Sophia's father stumbled backward, his face pale with fear. "What...what are you?" he stammered.
Lucas, now fully transformed, let out a mighty roar. His white fur glistened in the moonlight, and his eyes seemed to burn with an inner fire.
Sophia stepped forward, her eyes shining with wonder. "Lucas," she whispered. "You're...you're beautiful."
Lucas's gaze softened, and he padded closer to Sophia. He nudged her gently with his snout, as if seeking reassurance.
Sophia's father, still cowering in fear, suddenly remembered the rifle he held in his hands. He raised it, taking aim at Lucas.
But Sophia was too quick. She leapt forward, knocking the rifle from her father's hands. "No!" she cried. "You'll never hurt him again!"
The rifle clattered to the ground, harmless. Lucas, still in his werewolf form, looked at Sophia's father with a mixture of confusion and amusement.
Sophia's father, still cowering, looked up at Lucas with a mixture of fear and awe. "What...what kind of monster are you?" he stammered.
Lucas let out a low chuckle, his tail wagging slightly. He padded closer to Sophia's father, his eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief.
Sophia stepped forward, a smile on her face. "He's not a monster, Father," she said. "He's just...different. And he's the one I love."
Lucas's ears perked up at Sophia's words, and he felt a warmth spread through his chest. He looked at Sophia, his eyes shining with adoration.
Sophia's father, still looking shell-shocked, stumbled backward. "I...I need to get out of here," he muttered.
Lucas let out a low growl, but Sophia placed a hand on his fur, calming him. "Let him go," she said. "We don't need him anymore."
And with that, Sophia's father turned and ran, disappearing into the night. Lucas watched him go, a mixture of relief and amusement on his face.
Sophia smiled, reaching up to scratch Lucas behind the ears. "I'm glad that's over," she said.
Lucas let out a contented sigh, his eyes closing in bliss. He was happy, truly happy, for the first time in his life.
