A NARROW ESCAPE

Lucas's mind was racing with questions. How did Sophia know that he was different? What had she seen or sensed that had given him away? He thought back to their interactions, trying to pinpoint the moment when Sophia might have discovered his secret. But everything seemed normal - they had talked about school, music, and books, just like they always did. It wasn't until Lucas remembered the night of the full moon, when he had transformed into a wolf and run through the forest, that he realized Sophia might have seen him. But how? He had been so careful to avoid detection. As he pondered the mystery, Lucas heard a faint rustling in the bushes. He turned to see Sophia emerging from the darkness, a sly smile spreading across her face. "I've been watching you, Lucas," she said, her voice low and mysterious. "I've seen the way you move, the way you sense things. You're not like other people. You're... more." Lucas's heart skipped a beat as Sophia's words hung in the air. She knew. She really knew. But how? And what did she plan to do with that knowledge? Sophia's smile grew wider as she approached Lucas. "I've been seeing things, Lucas," she said, her eyes glinting with a knowing light. "Visions of you, of your transformations. I've been trying to understand what they mean." Lucas's mind reeled as he stared at Sophia. A seer? He had heard of people with the ability to see into the future, to sense things that others couldn't. But he had never met one before. "How?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "How do you do it?" Sophia shrugged. "I don't know. It's just something I've always been able to do. But I've never seen anything like you, Lucas. You're... different." Lucas felt a shiver run down his spine as Sophia's words hung in the air. Different. That's what he was. A werewolf, a creature of myth and legend. But Sophia didn't seem scared of him. Instead, she seemed fascinated, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What's it like?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "What's it like to be a werewolf?" Lucas hesitated, unsure of how to answer. But as he looked into Sophia's eyes, he saw something there that gave him the courage to open up. "It's... exhilarating," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's like nothing I've ever experienced before. The freedom, the power... it's intoxicating." Sophia's eyes widened as she listened, her face alight with wonder. And Lucas knew that he had found a true friend, someone who would accept him for who he was, secrets and all. As Lucas finished speaking, Sophia nodded thoughtfully. "I think I understand," she said. "It's like you're tapping into a deeper part of yourself, a part that's connected to the natural world." Lucas's eyes widened in surprise. "Exactly," he said. "It's like I'm becoming one with the forest, with the trees and the animals." Sophia smiled. "I think that's beautiful," she said. "And I think it's something that could be really powerful, if you learn to harness it." Lucas felt a surge of excitement at Sophia's words. He had never thought about his werewolf abilities as something that could be powerful, something that could be used for good. But now, he was beginning to see the possibilities. As they stood there, talking and laughing together, Lucas felt a sense of connection with Sophia that he had never felt with anyone before. It was like they were two pieces of a puzzle, fitting together perfectly. And as the night wore on, Lucas knew that he had found not only a true friend, but also a kindred spirit, someone who understood him in a way that no one else ever had. But as the moon began to set, casting a silver glow over the forest, Lucas felt a familiar stirring inside of him. His body was beginning to change, his senses growing sharper as he felt the call of the wild. Sophia's eyes locked onto his, and she smiled. "It's time, isn't it?" she asked. Lucas nodded, feeling a thrill of excitement. He knew that Sophia would be watching him, would be seeing him in his true form for the first time. And as he transformed into a wolf, feeling the power and freedom of the wild coursing through his veins, Lucas knew that he had found a true friend, someone who would accept him for who he was, no matter what. ******************** “Shhhh’ Sophia shushed Lucas “My parents are awake...Go Lucas...hide” she whispered sternly “But why? Lucas questioned “I’ll explain later” “Why not now” Lucas queried “They will kill you if they see you in this form, my...my parents are werewolves hunter...run Lucas” Lucas's eyes widened in shock as Sophia's words hung in the air. "Werewolf hunters?" he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper. Sophia nodded frantically, her eyes darting towards the house. "Yes, now go! Please, Lucas!" But Lucas hesitated, his mind racing with questions. "Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, feeling a pang of hurt. Sophia's face twisted in anguish. "I was trying to protect you, Lucas. I didn't want you to get hurt." Lucas's gaze locked onto Sophia's, and he saw the fear and desperation there. He knew he had to trust her. With a swift nod, Lucas turned and sprinted into the darkness, his heart pounding in his chest. He could hear Sophia's parents shouting behind him, their flashlights casting eerie shadows on the trees. As he ran, Lucas felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He knew he had to get as far away from Sophia's parents as possible. But he also knew he couldn't leave Sophia behind. He had to come back for her, to make sure she was safe. With that thought burning in his mind, Lucas disappeared into the night, determined to protect Sophia and himself from the danger that lurked in the shadows.
