Chapter 39: When Darkness Falls

Standing inside Black Butterfly and staring out the window, I don’t think there’s ever been a time when I’ve been so nervous. Luca has gone down to Saint Ambroeus, a bistro located at the Corso Matteotti near Via Monteoapoleone, to pick up a couple of coffees, the thick kind that has so many shots of espresso inside them that Luca has to kiss me until I’m able to keep quiet. That’s the excuse he gives me for doing so anyway. I’m sitting on the bench closest to the storefront window, the one on the right side of the door, when Alek walks in.
