Developments in TownOnly later, in the spring, did they become aware of some developments in the town which hadn’t reached them. It was as if after a long absence, they were curious, hungry for gossip and news. While they were living cut off from the world during their winter days, everything outside Adriana’s room had seemed irrelevant and dull. But now they were ready to re-enter the life beyond.
The main event – and talk of the town – was Elisabeta Donciu’s wedding. She was marrying a very wealthy man, the owner of an enormous linen factory. He was almost a celebrity.
