Chapter 4

The moment we stepped inside, Seamus lashed out at Jaidyn, "Who gave you permission to access the surveillance footage? Do you realize that's a violation?" "Moreover, as the ski team coach, how could you lay a hand on an athlete? This is a society ruled by law! If she were to sue you, you'd be going to jail! You're tarnishing the reputation of the entire sports community! Apologize immediately!" I calmly unlocked my phone and played the surveillance footage I had copied earlier. "Speaking of the law, Julia deliberately sabotaged my skis and almost caused me serious harm. This constitutes intentional assault. Seamus, how does the competition committee intend to handle this matter?" Seamus clearly didn't expect me to confront him directly. His face turned ashen. Chandler pointed at me and snarled, "You're looking for trouble! Do you still want to compete?" "I already said I asked Julia to switch the skis, and besides, didn't you ask for this yourself?" I sneered. "Even if I asked you to switch them, I wouldn't ask for a faulty pair, would I? So you're admitting to intentionally harming me?" "I have both witnesses and evidence." Just as I finished speaking, Julia, who had been silent, suddenly lunged at me, snatched my phone, and tossed it into the nearby fish tank with a loud "splash." The movement was so abrupt that she gasped softly, clutching her leg. Yet, she looked at me triumphantly. "Adeline, what evidence do you have now?" "You and Chandler were once a couple. Just apologize to Seamus. Let Chandler put in a good word for you, and this will all blow over." Apologize, apologize. Was that all these people knew how to say? Since they loved that word so much, I might as well give them a taste of their own medicine. I stared intently at Seamus, waiting to see if he would actually pervert the law. To my surprise, he snatched a teacup from the table and threw it at me. "I'm your superior! What's with that attitude? You need disciplinary action to learn some respect!" I dodged quickly. The teacup missed me, but the hot tea splashed on my clothes. Chandler turned away in disgust. Julia quickly handed Seamus a tissue and said with feigned concern, "Don't be angry, Seamus. It's not worth it to get worked up over someone like her." I took the phone from Jaidyn and dialed the emergency number in front of everyone. Seamus didn't seem fazed at all. He sat leisurely on his chair, legs crossed, watching me as if I were a joke. Julia grew anxious. She gently massaged Seamus's shoulders and asked tentatively, "Seamus, are you really going to let her tarnish the committee's reputation?" Seamus tapped the table with a self-important air. After hanging up the phone, I quickly sent a text message and returned the phone to Jaidyn. The landline on Seamus's desk rang. He answered on speakerphone. "We received a call from your location. What seems to be the problem? Do we need to send officers?" Seamus chuckled greasily. "You should come. Wouldn't want people to accuse you of neglecting your duty. It's just a minor issue, a formality." After hanging up, I noticed the look of adoration in Julia's eyes as she gazed at Seamus. Her breathing had quickened. If Chandler weren't present, she probably would have already thrown herself at him. Seamus smiled smugly, basking in Julia's admiration. Then he threatened Jaidyn and me. "That's the situation. How about this, I'll be a witness, and you two can settle this between yourselves." "As for you, Jaidyn, you can submit your resignation letter to me tomorrow." Chandler straightened his back and sneered at me. "Apologize to Julia. Don't pester me anymore, and stop calling yourself my ex-girlfriend. You're an embarrassment." Julia looked triumphant. "Adeline, you're a grown woman. Everyone knows to respect their superiors. I think you should quit the ski team and learn some manners. I'm doing this for your own good." I couldn't help but clap my hands and ask sincerely, "Does abusing your power feel good? I want to try it too!"
