Christian:
I had just left work after another emergency meeting. I could feel a nagging headache coming up as I sailed through the already quiet streets of New York, wondering if the people all collectively decided to take a break from disturbing the peace of the city today and retire early.
“ I want you to get the position of the Chairman when I’ll be stepping down but you know you cannot be the chairman if you do not have a wife. The board do not accept it.” My father’s voice echoed in my head for the 100th time today.
I needed a wife and it was one of the many things that was a problem to me. I need a wife.
I took my eyes of the road for one second but the next second, someone was running into the streets and I slammed on the brakes hard, bringing the car to a screeching halt.
Now even though the car had stopped just a mere inch from her, I still saw her body thud and hit the ground.
I could feel my heart begin to beat quickly as I got out of the car, picking her up.
I did not know what made me recognize her. Perhaps I had somehow unconsciously memorized how she smelt. Or maybe it was her lush brown hair that did everything to carve her beautiful face into the masterpiece that it was.
But I knew instantly that she was my brother's girlfriend. I looked around the floor, glad that just as I had suspected, she was not injured, perhaps just fainted from shock.
I placed her in the car, coming back out to scan the area and look for my brother, but of course, he was nowhere to be found.
Why was I surprised? The only thing Paxton ever did right was jump from lady to lady.
It came as a surprise to me when he introduced her to me, as his girlfriend.
While he had the soft features of my mother that made everyone think he was the kind one, I had my father's stoic and sharp features, with eyes that people swore made them shiver whenever they stared into it.
I still remember the first time we met like it was yesterday.
" I don't think you have met Heather. She is my girlfriend, I met her last year" he said to me that day.
She wore a flowery red dress and her hair was let down, her scent delicately tingling my nose and making me question my sense of reasoning.
When he had called her his girlfriend, I saw her eyes light up with a naive smile, as though it was a title she was proud to bear.
I wanted to remind him of the girl I caught him kissing on our living room couch just yesterday, maybe ask if she knew about that.
But I didn't.
Instead I had stretched out my hands, and I took her soft hands into my larger ones.
" Nice to meet you Heather. I'm Christian." I said to her,
" Same here. I hope you have a wonderful evening.” She said,
It was the first time I saw her at a dinner my father had thrown, and even though we met twice after that, we never talked again.
Now she was here, knocked out in my car, her hair clinging to her face even in the ice cold weather.
I drove straight home, my housekeeper Mrs Williams opened the door the very minute I stepped in.
" Welcome sir...oh..." She said, her voice trailing off as she looked at the woman in my arms.
We were standing in the light now, and now I could clearly see her face. She had been crying.
The telltale signs were the tearlines that dwelled on her face, her mouth slightly open.
I clenched my teeth tightly, what had made her cry?
" I need you to and change her, I will provide a change of cloth. She fainted but she should be awake soon" I said to her.
Even though I stayed in the house alone and Mrs Willams always went home after work each day, I still had a lot of spare rooms because I loved having enough rooms for whatever circumstances.
I stood outside one of those rooms now, wishing patiently and drumming my legs into the tiles as I waited for her to be done.
Finally, she came out of the room, “I’m done now, you can go see her.”
I was satisfied by what I saw.
She was dressed in my shirt all thanks to Mrs Williams.
Her hair all over her body and her face was void of the tear stain lines from earlier.
" It's good enough. You can go home now, I’ll ask my driver to drop you off.” I said and she nodded before walking out, my eyes still lingered on her.
I was tired. I only felt fatigue when I took a shower and sat on my bed.
I laid there on the bed, looking up at the ceilings and slowly, I felt the sleep overwhelm me, knocking me completely out.

It was morning already and I was in my home office attending to a few unfinished business.
My phone rang and I stared at the caller ID. It was Evans, my assistant.
“The only reason you should be calling me is if you have found me a wife, we cannot stall my father for too long and you know how much I want the position.” I said immediately after placing my phone on my ear.
The only reason why I would not be appointed as the Chairman of Lawson LTD was because I was unmarried and only married people could attain such positions according to the board.
" I haven’t found any woman who is willing to marry you for a while. They say it's sketchy." He said and I fought the urge to punch him in the face, how hard was it?
" What do you mean sketchy? How much do they want? 15 million? 30 million? Let them name their prices. All they have to do is be my bride for a few months " I said on the phone.
“It’s not so easy.” He groaned.
“Do you want to get fired?” I asked.
“No, sir.” He muttered but I couldn’t care less, I needed a wife in less than 48hrs or my chance of becoming the Chairman in my father’s company would be gone.
“I will pay any amount, you can send a few ladies to my office for an interview today, I do not have this time Evans, just two more days.”
I suddenly heard a slight thud and my door creaked open and I saw her head peek in.
Her skin was flushed and even this morning, her lips still managed to look full round and perfect. The perfect kissable lips.
I raised my brows at her.
“Heather? What do you want?” I asked.
“I will marry you, Christian.” She stated, her eyes looking straight at mine.
“What are you talking about, Heather?” I questioned.
“You heard me, I can marry you.”
