Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Olivia at the orphanage treated all of us like her own children, but she was especially kind to me. When I was young, I used to think, if I had a mother, she would be as gentle as Olivia. As time passed, more and more children from the orphanage were adopted, but I never left. Every time a new family came to adopt, I would hide. I didn't want to leave. This place had warm meals and friends I had known since childhood. Most importantly, it had Olivia. With Olivia's support, I was able to attend college. I did well, received a full scholarship, and earned the qualification for graduate school recommendation. Finally, it was my turn to repay Olivia, but then my biological parents showed up. That was when I found out I wasn't just some unwanted orphan. I had parents. They were successful entrepreneurs in Ardenia, with more money than I could even understand. When they found me, I was at the orphanage, helping Olivia look after the new kids. They pulled me into their arms and cried. I didn't remember them at all, but I still cried with them. So this is what family feels like, I thought. They said that back when they were building their business, they didn't have the time or energy to raise two children. One day, I got lost. They searched everywhere, but they never found me. Now, after all these years, they finally found me. They insisted on bringing me back to the Lane family to make up for all the lost years of family affection. As a token of thanks, they also offered to donate money to support the orphanage. That same day, Olivia cried too, but hers were tears of joy, because I had found my family, and I was no longer an orphan. She hoped I would be happy and live a long life. The Lane family held a grand welcome for me that made headlines across the city. The media praised them, not just for reuniting with their long-lost daughter, but also for their kindness toward the orphanage. It all felt like a dream, too good to be real. But once I stepped into the Lane household, I slowly began to realize something. They didn't love me.
