Chapter 10That evening, Jenny was helping Renée prepare dinner. They were in the house the interns used as a dorm. Renée had said they’d do it themselves even though it was her and Conchetta’s and Bianca’s night again. Jenny sensed her need to be alone, and yet not abandon her duty. She’d smiled at Conchetta, who’d protested, and at Bianca, who hadn’t. Now, they were alone in the kitchen, and the intimacy of being with Renée with no one else about made Jenny slightly giddy. She stood behind Renée while her girlfriend mixed soup in a huge pot. The stuff had been in a slow cooker all day, but Renée wanted to boil off some of the extra liquid.
