Chapter 15

"Oh, I found you." Anna said as she came up to me. "Not very many places I could be." I said as I took a seat on one of the picnic tables. "Yeah, that's true. They're getting ready for the procession." Anna said as she took my hand. "Oh, OK. Then after that I want to go home and go to bed." I tell her as she nods her head. "OK, if that's what you want to do, then we'll do that." We made our way to Mary's vehicle, and we waited for Blade. He'll lead the way with Spyder behind him in a specially made trailer that attaches to any motorcycle that has a hitch. "He's getting ready to pull out now, we'll be behind him and everyone else will be behind us." She says as she opens the door for me. I nod my head as Pepper and I get in the back. Pepper lays her head on my leg and I can't help but put my hand on her head. It didn't take long to get to the cemetery where my mom and brother were laid to rest. He'll be placed next to mom under the big weeping willow that stands at the back of the cemetery. It didn't take as long as I thought it was going to, to get everyone over here. Blade, Mac, Michael, Lip, Mo and Slick carry the casket to his final resting place. Chap, the club chaplain, gives him his last rights and is the last to speak about the type of man he was. There was no dry eye there. We say the Lord's prayer and place black and white roses onto the casket before it starts its slow decent. I know I can't watch this again. When my mom and brother died, I stood and watched as they were lowered into the ground. The only difference was my dad was with me, and now it's just me. I turned to head back to the car, when I walked into a wall. There's Michael, always there without saying a word. He gives me a hug and holds me for a minute. At that moment, though, it felt like everything was right in the world, even though I knew it wasn't. "Thank you, Michael." I said into his chest. "Melanie, I will always be here for you." He said before he kissed me on the head. I left him standing there, as I headed to the car. Anna meets me as I get in the car with Pepper. Mary and Blade talked as they looked at the car. I just put my head down, I know they're talking about me. Right now, I dont really care. I just want to go home, and crawl into bed and stay there. Anna gets in the front seat before she turns around to look at me. "Mom's on her way over now." I nod my head, not trusting my voice. "I'm going to drop you and Anna off and then head back to the clubhouse," Mary said as she started the vehicle. "Thank you." I said, but it was barely above a whisper. "Youre welcome, honey." She said as she left the cemetery. We got back to my house in no time, and I gave Mary a hug before going inside and up to my room. After getting ready for bed, I heard scratching at the door and I knew it was Pepper. I open the door and leave it cracked so she can come and go as she pleases. We lay on my bed and I sneggled in close to her and fell asleep. Hoping tomorrow will be better. Its been a month and a half since I buried my dad. Anna hasn't left my side, so I'm not completely alone. Pepper has helped get me outside even though all I want to do is stay in bed. I haven't seen Michael since the funeral, Mary's been over checking on us. Making sure everything is going okay, and, of course, Blade has stopped a few times too. Lip and Mo haven't been seen around here since the funeral. Though, sometimes at night I feel like I'm being watched, I figure it's just because I haven't gotten used to being here with only Anna and myself. Tomorrow we leave for college and it's a little nerve-racking, but I believe this will be a good thing. A fresh start. "Well, Anna, I believe everything is packed and ready to go." I tell her as Pepper runs around the front yard. "I believe everything is ready except what we have for the night and for the morning. Other than that, everything was done, even saying goodbye to mom and dad was nice. Though, I wish we could have seen Michael." She says as we make sure the trailer is secure. "Yeah, dinner was nice. Michael hasn't answered any of my texts or calls. They just wind up going unanswered. I wanted to say goodbye before we left," I said as a tear slipped down my cheek. "Well, from what I've heard, he's been busy with the club. He's really thrown himself into it from what I understand. He hasn't really talked to me either. I'm sure if we give him some more time he'll come around." She says as we head for the door. She has been saying that since the day after my dad died, but I don't think he will. "I hope you're right. I think I'm going to head to bed. This way we can hit the road early." I told her as I made my way to the stairs. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, but I'm going to stay down here a little bit longer, then I'll probably head to bed myself." She says as she heads into the family room. "OK, I'll see you in the morning, goodnight." "Night, Mel." I headed up the stairs and entered my room. It looks so different. Everything that wasn't going with us has been moved to the garage. The only things left are two beds and some furniture downstairs. Mary said she would come over with a few of the guys and a couple of old ladies to finish cleaning it out. I haven't decided on whether to sell it or give it to the club. I'm not sure what I should do.
