It's been a week since I've seen Michael. I've talked to Anna a few times on the phone. I've also spent some time with Mary as well. My dad has been gone for about four days now. He seemed so stressed and a little angry too, before he left. I don't know what's going on, but it probably isn't good.
I took a look outside and saw it was a gorgeous day with clear skies. I decided maybe going for a swim would do me some good. I changed out of my pajama bottoms and t-shirt, into my blue string bikini and I put on a pair of short shorts. I grab my towel as I head for the kitchen.
"Pepper, we're gonna go for a car ride and then we're gonna go swimming." I know she can't really understand me but its cute watching her little tail go crazy as she spins in a circle. I grab a water bottle and a bowl for her and some water for myself. I place them in my backpack before heading out to my car.
Pepper races to the car and she's in the passenger seat before I even get the door open enough for me to get in. I laugh at her antics. I rolled her window down and then my own. It doesn't take long to get to the Cemetery, but the whole time there Pepper has her head out the window and I love the breeze too.
I hop out of the car and she follows behind me. She has to stop and sniff everything. I shook my head as I reached the tree line. Pepper doesn't know what to look at or sniff next, she is peeing almost every couple of steps. Of course, she tries to mark her territory. I turn some music on as we follow the path. It isn't long before we make it to the Creek.
I headed to the rock out cropping and lay my towel on the rocks before taking my short off. Pepper jumps into the water as I lay on my towel and take a drink from my water bottle. I relax in the sun trying to get some color. Pepper, of course, chooses to get out of the water and she shakes herself off next to me. I let out a scream from the cold water hitting me. She comes over and lies next to me in the sun and I can't help but wish Michael or even Anna were with me. I let the music play as I decide to get wet.
Pepper follows me back into the water and she keeps pace with me as I swim from one side to the next. After doing some laps, I get out and lay on my towel as I continue to soak up the sun. Pepper stays in the water a little longer before getting out herself. I dozed off not long after and I woke with a start. My heart is pounding and I get this feeling that something is terribly wrong.
"Come on, Pepper." I grabbed all my stuff and stuffed it back in my bag as I ran back to the car.
By the time I get home, the feeling has become worse, but when I look around, all is quiet. I try to laugh off my feelings as just nerves or maybe stress, but it doesn't go away. I'm just opening the door as Pepper turns toward the road and so do I. That's when I hear it, the sound of multiple bikes coming down the road fast. I stand on the porch and Pepper sits next to my feet as I watch four bikes come up the drive.
Blade is first, followed by Lip, Mo, and Slick. Michael and my dad aren't with them. Now I know something is wrong. Blade gets off his bike and heads toward me, while the others stay on their bikes. From the look on Blade's face, whatever is going on isn't good.
"Kiddo, I need you to come with me." Blade says quietly.
"What's going on Blade?" I asked.
"I need you to come with me, right now." Blade takes my hand as he tries to lead me off the porch. I'm frozen to the spot and I can't move a foot.
"Kiddo, listen to me. I need you to come with me. Get in your car." His voice hardens as he pulls me, forcing me to move.
He leads me to my car and I get in with Pepper next to me. As I make my way down the driveway they surround my car as if protecting me from something. I was escorted the whole way to the clubhouse. Although it used to be a warehouse, it's now surrounded by a chain link fence with barb wire around the top and a big metal gate that a prospect opens when Blade hollers.
The whole place has been completely renovated inside to two floors with multiple rooms, a kitchen, a bar, pool tables, couches and chairs. The back had a BBQ area, and a playground for when the kids were around. Plus, there are garages in the back where they work on any vehicle that needs it.
I park my car, and I sit there not wanting to get out. Blade comes over and opens my door before taking my hand in his and pulling me out. Pepper follows me and her tail isn't wagging and her ears are down. I guess she's feeling it too.
