Chapter 1

949 Words
I knew my life wasn't like the other girls I went to school with. My name is Melanie Andrews, I have just turned 18, and I have just graduated from high school. In the fall I'm off to college. I have plans to leave this h*ll hole of a town. I know my father won't like it but I don't care. I will not be stuck here, I refuse. I heard my father's voice yell up the stairs. From his tone I knew I was in trouble. "Melanie, Get Your Ass Down Here!" My name is Spyder, I've been the Prez of The Reaper's MC, for ten years now and I know I'm on borrowed time. I've walked with the grim reaper a few times but I've always been able to say a big, f*ck you to the bastard. My wife and son were killed by a rival club. They were after me. But it was easier to go after my family. Luckily, my daughter was with my VP's old lady and their kids. She's all I have left. Though, she's going to be the death of me. "Coming, Dad." I yelled, as I trudged down the stairs. I almost tripped over my feet as I found him waiting for me at the bottom. "What's up, dad? I thought you were going to be busy today." He gave me a flat look before saying anything. "That can wait, we need to talk." He says as he leads me to his study. Now I definitely know I'm in trouble. I follow him through the big oak doors, and he waits for me to pass before closing it. This was always one of my favorite rooms in the house when I was younger. Now it feels like a cage. I would spend hours here after my mother and brother were murdered. Just reading and trying to escape my own reality. Books helped, and so didn't my best friend, Anna Walker, and her parents. "So what did you want to talk about?" I asked. As I took the seat across from his massive desk. He took a deep breath before looking me in the eye. "I'm only going to ask you one time and you will tell me the truth. Understood?" His eyes harden as he stared at me. Oh, sh*t. This isn't going to be good. "Yes, daddy I understand." I want to lower my gaze but, but if I do, it would just make this worse. "Is there something you're planning that you aren't telling me?" He leans forward as I scramble for something to say. After a few minutes of trying to think of something, I heard him clear his thought. "Well?" "I applied to a few colleges with Anna. Why?" I'm hesitant as he tosses an envelope on his desk. My heart drops as I see who it's from. He knows. The envelope is from Colorado State, which is nowhere near Oakview, Montana. "Michael, Anna, and I are supposed to go there in the fall." "Anna, is going. You and Michael aren't going anywhere." He snares at me as my chest tightens. "Excuse me, I have every right to go. I received a full-ride scholarship. You can't do this!" He slams his fist against the desk, as he stands. "Oh, yes I can. You will go to the community college here or nowhere!" I want to shrink away from him, but I need to stand up for myself and if I don't do it now I never will. "They have an amazing nursing program, one of the best in the country. That's why I'm going there. You can't do this. Annie and I were both accepted into the program. I'm an adult. I'm going with or without your permission." "No, you're not. Even if I need to lock you in your room, you will be going nowhere." Venom drips from every word he speaks. He can be such a tyrant, he never used to be this way. He used to be supportive and caring about what we wanted. Ever since the accident, he hasn't been the same. "Whatever, I'm going to my room." As I'm leaving I hear the whispered words, I'm sorry. I don't turn around and I don't look back either. As I lay on my bed and contemplated my existence, my phone rang. I pick it up and see Anna's name flash across the screen. I bet she already knows what's going on. *phone call* "Hey Anna, what's up?" "Hey girl, my dad just told me. I'm so sorry, but I'm sure we can figure something out. Michael is beyond pissed since he found out he can't go either." "Yeah, well, I'm going. I don't care if he likes it or not. I will not be trapped here and be sucked into this life." "I hear you, Mel. We both know how your dad is though. But onto another topic. You wanna hang out?" "Yeah, I'll meet you at our spot. See you in a bit." I hung up and looked outside and saw it was a gorgeous day out. I slip into my t-shirt and a pair of shorts along with my combat boots. I headed to my dad's study and knocked on the door. There's no answer. I know I'm not supposed to, but I opened the door anyway and peeked inside. The room was empty, which was weird because I didn't hear his bike start. I looked outside and saw the garage empty, which meant he took his truck. I guess I'll see him later. I locked the door as I headed out. Hoping for a better day than how it started.
