The journal was in his hands again. Nadim sat in the bedroom, the lamp casting soft gold over the worn pages. Yasmin was asleep on the couch, her back turned to him like she always did now — like turning around might shatter them both. But the words on the page cut deeper than anything she’d said out loud. > “It wasn’t about love. I never stopped loving him. It was about disappearing. About needing someone to notice I was fading before I vanished completely.” > “Nadim gave me everything except his attention. I craved his eyes on me like water, but he was always too tired. Too distant. Too busy carrying pain he never shared.” > “I cheated because I was weak, not evil. I thought Ali saw me. But I hated myself more after. I hated what I did to Nadim, to us, to myself.” Nadim’s throat clenched. He flipped to the last entry. > “I don’t deserve his forgiveness. But I’ll stay until he throws me out. And if he doesn’t — I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure he never regrets not letting me go.” He closed the notebook. His heart pounded with something worse than rage. Hurt. Betrayal. And the unbearable weight of almost understanding her. --- He stood suddenly. The chair scraped the floor. Yasmin stirred on the couch, half-asleep. “Nadim…?” He stood in the doorway, journal still in hand.
