Kenzi POV
As he wrapped his hand around my waist and pulled me in, I felt safe. I knew that he would love and protect me. I cannot deny that I had this underlining fear of what this would mean to be mated to another alpha.
Who will be alpha? Would we share alpha? Are the packs expected to merge?
‘Calm down. Just enjoy yourself. Get to know him.’ Storm tried to relax me.
‘Fine, I am just nervous. I have never done this before.’ I barked.
‘Just start by asking questions. I am going to do the same with his wolf.’ Stormed receded.
I looked up at him hoping he would recognize I have no idea what I am doing. I have never been on a date, kissed a guy, or anything. This was all new territory for me. “ So Calcipher…”
“Don’t worry I am nervous too.” He chuckled. “This is not my first dance, but this mate thing is new to me. How about we play a game? 20 questions?”
“Oh thank the goddess.” I laughed. “Let's do that. Do you want to get out of her? I don’t mind the party, but I do not enjoy being stared at all night.”
“Lead the way, honey.”
“Honey?”
“You smell of honey, cocoa, and lavender.”
“How funny. You also smell like honey and mahogany.” I say as I grab his hand and lead the way. The touch of our skin with the electric sparks, still causes a chill to run down my body.
I lead him out of the ballroom and decide that instead of taking him to my room, I know where that will lead, I lead him to the backyard where my father built a giant greenhouse for my mother. It is the place he brings her to have a romantic night under the open stars. I am pretty convinced my brothers were conceived here.
As we enter through the door, I ask Calcipher to stay put so I can turn on the lights. The lights are not big ones, as they are simple Christmas lights draping across the ceiling. I go back over and grab his hand and we proceed to walk through the greenhouse. I am in front of him slowly moving him along allowing us to get into a natural pace.
“So, since I am a lady, it only makes sense that I go first. What would you prefer I call you?” I asked as I turn back to face him.
“Most people call me Cal, but you can call me what you like.” He said looking at me through his thick eyelashes. “My turn did you ever expect to find your mate tonight and it is another alpha.”
“WOW! You get straight to the point. No bullshit kinda guy.” Cal releases a low growl.
“Language, honey. I would hate to have to punish you for your mouth.” He says through dilated eyes. I sense his wolf his close. I do not think he their in a violent way, but I do get the feeling he is kinky.
“Noted. Back to your question.” I shift on my foot as I turn to continue walking. “I never wanted to meet you so soon, but I also knew I could not avoid it. As far as you being an alpha, I never gave it much thought.”
“You do look older than me. How long have you been waiting for your mate?”
“Five years.” He answered straight.
“So, you have been looking for a while. I am sure you have been keeping busy.” I look over my shoulder at him. I am sure he understands what I am asking him, but will he answer it.
“Yep.” He says as he put his head down and rubs his bottom lip. “Let’s lighten the mode, these questions are getting tense. What is something you wish you could have done or learned if you hadn’t been preparing to become alpha?”
“Cook. And before you think I am completely a mess, I must explain.” I chuckle. “Growing up with my mom, aunts, and Stella—they all just took care of the cooking. When I would get back from late training with my dad and uncle, they would be finished. I can cook a few dishes, but not enough for someone to survive unless they love spaghetti.”
“Well you are in luck, spaghetti is my favorite.” He looks at me with a grin.
Before I could prepare to ask him my next question, my father breaks through via our mind link.
‘Mackenzi, rogues are at the southern border.’
I look over at Cal and see he also minds linking someone.
“Rogues are at the southern border,” I say to him.
“Yes, my father just informed me also. I must get you back into the packhouse for your own safety.”
“Buddy that is not going to happen.” I turn to him. “The only time I like to be treated like a lady is when I use it to my advantage,” I say as I walk towards the door.
