Chapter 1

Mackenzi POV   “PUSH MACKENZI!!” My father shouts at me from the edge of the training field. “How can you ever be Alpha to this pack if you are not the strongest in this pack!” He continues to scream.   As a thirteen-year-old daughter to an Alpha, I do not get the luxury of using the excuse, I am tired. From the day I enter the training field ten years ago, my dad has trained me relentlessly to be the best. I am trained in 7 forms of combat and an expert marksman in shooting and sword play. As I am the only child, my father has made it his mission to ensure that I am the best in all aspects of training.   “Get up ‘Kenzi, you can do it.” My uncle Lukas, who is also my father’s Beta, says to me. “Hands up. Always on the defense!” As my father’s younger brother, he tries to balance the energy from my father.   We go on like this for another two hours before the sun starts to set. My father dismisses me to return home to get cleaned up and ready for dinner. “Tell your mother, I will be home later.” My father says to me.   My parents always wanted more children, but the moon goddess had other plans. About six years ago the pack was in the middle of a war with another pack and my mother was severely injured. Her life was spared, but she became baren.   My father still loves my mother dearly, but he cannot seem to face her. He spends his late nights in his office and on a few occasions, I hear my mother crying in pain through the night. I know she is experiencing the pains of an unfaithful mate.   Once before last year, I awoke from my sleep to my mom's screams. I ran to her aid only to discover her laying on the floor in the fetal position. I immediately ran to the packhouse to find my father because I was not able to get through to him using mind link. Upon reaching his office, I barged in to find him with one of the pack sluts bend over the desk. I immediately froze as they both stared at me. “MACKENZI, YOU DO NOT BARGE INTO MY OFFICE! WAIT OUTSIDE!” He screamed at me in his Alpha voice. Being the child of an Alpha that did not work! “You are a f*****g asshole Alpha!” I shouted as I ran out of the office slamming the door behind me.   I immediately mind link the pack doctor to check on my mother and ran into the woods. Shifting immediately into my huge white wolf. I did not return home for almost a week. That was when I decided I would never have a mate, especially a cheating one.   I shut that memory out of my mind and head towards home. My father and I have never discussed that night and he knows I will never forgive him for the pain he causes my mother.   Since we do not live at the packhouse, I race towards our family home on the out opposite side of the pack grounds. Since we are a pack with over 400 wolves, we have a very large territory. The packhouse is in the center of our territory and it is surrounded by houses of our pack. We have a hospital, training arena, nursery for the pups, schools for the older kids, and tons of open fields.   I decide to message mom that I will go for a run before I head home. I need to clear my mind. I immediately message Jaxon, Lukas’ son and my future beta to meet me at my spot.   ‘Jax, you busy? Up for a run to the waterfall?’ I reach out to him through mind link. He immediately replies, ‘Definitely! Be there in 10 minutes.’   As I get to the edge of the forest line and prepare to shift. Being a werewolf, we naturally have great looks. Standing at 5’8, with olive skin and green eyes. My hair is what my mom calls a mess of dark chocolate curls that reaches down to my waist. I love them because they are free and stand out just like me.   ‘Storm, are you ready?’   ‘Goddess yes! I feel so cooped up in here'   I extend my neck and crouch down, allowing my wolf to take over, and began to shift. Most wolves' fur is the color of their hair, but I stand out being that I am a rare white wolf and also larger than the normal she-wolf. I stand only a few inches shorter than my father.   I open my eyes and inhale nature around me. I stretch my paws and twitch my ears as I howl at the moon. I dash off in the direction of the waterfall.
