After we got the news from the doctor, and he’d left us Logan decides that staying here is not going to happen. Even before our tears stopped falling he’d moved up the time frame, by a lot.
As soon as the doctor released me into my sister and Logans custody, Logan carries me to the car while my sister goes to get our travel bags that we packed the day before with a few clothes in them. Aaron is told to stay behind to make sure our things are loaded into the moving truck. When my sister comes out of the house father follows to the porch. He has a smug look on his face.
At the same time my sisters’ right foot touches the ground six massive wolves comes through the woods to the east. One is light grey, two are grey- browns' and there are three brown. The wolves start to move slowly towards us. It is obvious that these wolves are heavily trained as a unit.
“Not to be worried” Logan says out loud. “These are my warriors.”
He leans closer to me in the car and says. “I called them as soon as we knew you were missing. They’ve been running for hours.”
When driving The Red Moon Pack is more than six hours away. I checked before my computer was packed yesterday. The warriors must be fast, also they didn’t need to abide by simple things like a road, they could just run straight from The Red Moon Pack.
I’m not paying attention to Dora as I’m fascinated by the wolves that’s coming towards us, so I miss her and father’s conversation, that is until I hear her scream “You are never welcome at my pack!”
Father looks like she slapped him. She turns, beyond furious and marches towards the car. Her black hair swaying along her face. “I want to leave. Now.”
“Brody, stay with Aaron.” Logan says before he opens the door for my sister who gently got in beside me, lifts my head and cradles it in her lap. Logan closes the door and gets in and start the car.
The other wolves follow the car. I soon fall asleep while my sister strokes my hair.
“Hey sis.”
I open my eyes and see Dora smile down at me. She has something in her right hand.
“FOOD” I squeal when the smell hit me.
I try to sit up but stop when the pain hit me. I draw a deep ragged breath.
“Wow. I did not just do that to myself.” I hiss between clenched teeth.
Dora gives me the food and helps me sit up just enough for it to not be too uncomfortable to eat. I look up front and meet Logans eyes in the rearview mirror. He has a hamburger in his hand and we are in the parking lot outside a fast-food joint.
“Are you okay, sis?” he asks. I’m taken back a bit, since I just met him yesterday, I didn’t expect him to care for me much. Before I can answer my sister did.
“Who knew the big bad Alpha is such a sweetheart.” My sister tease. I see his eyes in the mirror become black when they meet her eyes.
I feel my sister’s hand stroke my hair once again. “I am not going to miss this black color.” I freeze and look up at her. Her right eyebrow lifted. “What? You’re telling me that you want to continue dying every sixth week?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t gotten that far.” I whisper.
“Well, then you’ve got to find someone else to do it because I’ve had it, I miss your white color. And I am going to be busy. I’ve got a new job and I want kids.”
I look back at Logan only to see his wide grin.
When we finished our lunch, Logan says it is only an hour and a half until we reach his packs territory, another forty minutes until we are there.
I close my eyes and relax under my sisters’ stroking hand. I dream of mother and her pretty blue eyes and smile. Dora looks just like her, from the body she possesses up to the black hair and even the quirk in her smile.
I wake up being carried then placed on a flat surface, I look up and expected my sisters’ mate but instead it is an unfamiliar face. “Hello Rochelle, my name is James Andrews, I’m one of the pack doctors, this is nurse Doreen. I don’t think you remember this one, but he carried you in here, this is Gamma John Hackett.”
“Elle, please.” I whisper shyly.
The doctor is middle aged and has kind eyes that instantly make me relax. Doreen also looks like a nice woman and the Gamma is a dark figure in the corner but he seems friendly enough. If my sister and Logan had him carry me here, he must be nice.
“Now let’s take a look at your tummy.” Dr. Andrews says.
Fifteen minutes later the Gamma leans over me to carry me out of the pack hospital.
“Gamma Hackett-”
“Please call me John. ‘Gamma Hackett’ makes me look for my dad.” He smile awkwardly.
“John. Where’s my sist- oh ehm... the Luna?”
John smile at me. “She’s just fine, Elle. She had to go straight to the old Luna and Alpha. She wasn’t too keen about leaving you, but I promised I wouldn’t leave your side.”
Oh. Hum. “Where are we going now?”
As I’m asking my questions, John have walked with me through at least five doors that always someone is kind enough to open or hold open for us. We pass a window and I see four mountains with white peaks and a lot of trees. This is a deep forest alright.
“I’m going to take you to your room on the Alpha floor.” He starts walking up the stairs “This is the second floor. There are twelve guestrooms on this floor, mostly when we have visiting Alphas and Betas staying over. The third floor is Alpha, Beta and Gamma families. Fourth floor is mine and Aarons, we share it with our mates and, in the future, our children. Mine is to the left and Aaron to the right. Our offices are the two doors here just in front of the stairs.”
We finally reach the fifth floor and I’m exhausted even though I’m not even walking. But at least I’m not in pain. The painkillers seem extremely efficient.
John carries me to a room with two blue walls and two white walls. It is trice the size my old room was. The large window have a balcony that views out over the forest. “Wow.”
I’m placed on an insanely soft bed.
“You should rest if you need anything call any of the numbers programmed in here. It holds my number, your sisters’ new number, the Alphas and Betas. And the kitchen head omega Mrs. Willis.”
He gave me a smartphone that I study for a couple of seconds while I’m trying to figure out how to use it. When I look up John had disappeared. “John!”
“Yes?” his head peaks in again.
“I don’t know how to use this. Could you maybe show me how to make a call…?” I look out of the window as I feel nothing but shame. When he doesn’t answer I figure he left. But then he sits down on the bed beside me, I turn towards him and he smile.
“Sure thing, Elle, here let me show you…”
Ten minutes later I know how to call, where I’m supposed to speak and how to “hang up”. I even sent a text to Dora saying ‘Hey this is my number /Elle’
I get a reply saying ‘Got it! See you later! /Dora’
“You got it!” John says with a smile. “Now you rest.”
“Thank you.” I nod and close my eyes since they are, in fact, very sleepy. I wake up three hours later by my sister sitting down on the bed.
I feel her embrace even before I open my eyes.
“How are you feeling sis?” she whisper in my ear.
“A lot better!” I answer truthfully. “This bed is heaven!”
“Yeah, I agree.” She answer, it sounds like she is smiling.
“Are you happy Dora?”
“I am. Especially now that I know you are.”
There is a knock on the door. When neither of us says anything, there is a knock again.
“Come… in?” my sister calls out.
Logan open the door. “You didn’t hear me the first time?”
“Yeah, we did. We’re just not used to people actually knocking and waiting for an answer before entering.” Dora reply with a smile. “Hey handsome.”
“Dinner is in one hour; I was coming to ask Elle weather she wanted to eat up here or come down?”
I’m stunned. I always ate in my room back “home”. Dora looks me over and recognize my surprise, I’m still not saying anything.
“I think she can eat up here until she’s better in her stomach- that is if that’s okay with you..” she says and look back at Logan, he smile at us.
“Of course it is!” He looks offended for a moment then he meets my eyes. “How do you like your room? We can always change to one of the other if you don’t like it. Mine and Adora’s room is just across the hall. I figured you two would want to be close to each other.”
If I could have I think I would have jumped in the bed out of happiness. But that is kind of hard right now. He walks over and sit beside Dora’s feet.
“Alp- Logan. Really?” I say and give him one of my rare smiles. Around other than Dora I don’t really smile. “What’s not to like? The room is HUGE, the bed is amazing and my view is incredible! And I got a phone!”
When the bed starts shaking beside me I look back at Dora, she is crying. Logan notice at the same time.
“What’s wrong?” we both ask. Logan leans forward to touch her thigh in a consoling gesture.
She tries to wipe the tears away but fails. “You smiled.” She sobs. “You never smile around others! I am so happy that I started crying. I’m sorry for scaring you both.”
“That will be my new goal every day. Get the two of you to smile. As often as I can.” Logan says while looking at us. “My two favorite girls.”
