The lights in the room went off, but the room did not go dark. This took very little concentration on her part. She slowly condensed the light, leaving parts of the room in absolute darkness and others in light. “I do not know that we actually have limits. I could level this city with little more than a thought, but I am not normal…” She looked up and the light returned to normal. “Yet, we are not simply weapons. I read that you lost your favorite dog…” she said.
Something started forming at the feet of the Chancellor. It started off like mist solidifying, but then bone, organs, muscle, and finally fur formed. In a moment, a perfectly healthy hound puppy was sitting at the feet of the Chancellor.
Kate felt a tiny weight on her lap and looked down. She was staring at a perfectly white kitten. She paled, lifted it gently and ran a few paces to her father.
He was standing before she reached him and he gently placed a hand on her shoulder. “Kate, if you were thinking clearly right now, you would say that I never told you not to create a cat. I said I wouldn’t buy one, you couldn’t buy one, you couldn’t ask anyone for a cat, and you couldn’t find and adopt one…” He looked at the other people in the room who were watching them closely.
“ My daughter has always been unique. The most unique quality about her is the fact that she will not directly disobey any rule.” He smiled. “Once she repelled down our building to my garage because I told her not to go through that door without me.” He chuckled.
“I am asking for seventy-two hours with my daughter so that she can tell me what she needs for me to know. I simply hope that I can understand it.”
Kate turned back to the room. She was blushing, but she didn’t care. She had just shown them that she could control, light and create life, but she couldn’t handle her own emotions. No one was laughing. “I’m sorry, the code my father speaks of is nearly a curse. Because of the way I got my memories, certain rules became like a biological imperative.”
“My daughter could use that imperative,” The king stated. The adults laughed.
Kate looked at the King. “Your majesty, you don’t understand. When I get back we will discuss this, because it is a major weakness.” She turned to her father. “Daddy, seventy-two hours may not be enough time.”
He placed a hand on her shoulder . “It will be a start. I’m not going anywhere.
