“Ms. Dawson, I’d like a word with you.” Major Jron said as everyone was leaving the room. “Alone.” He added when her father stopped.
Kate nodded, so he left the room. Kate sat back down. The Major studied her for a moment. She fidgeted; what was it with these people and their ability to make her uncomfortable? You aren’t comfortable with yourself yet. Once you are secure in who you are, they will not bother you.
“There are consequences to all actions. I think you understand this.” The major stated
Kate nodded, so he continued.
“Being a knight is both an honor and a punishment. It comes with a heavy load. You in particular will pay dearly because his majesty will name you a Justar Marshal.” He paused again.
“Why would he name me Justar? His brother is older than I am,” Kate replied.
“According to you, every power and magic falls under your jurisdiction and…” he lifted a small device out of his pocket. She had felt the device already and allowed it to feel her abilities. It was a simple grail, but she was curious about how it came into his possession. “…this verifies your claims.”
The major stood and started pacing. “I don’t like that you break all the rules that I have studied. How can someone be touched by Creation and Destruction, Life and Death, Order and Chaos; how can you control the male and female aspects of the trifecta? Most importantly, how could you awake before you were even born?” He spun and looked at her. She knew he wanted answers.
“I have questions of my own,” She retorted. “Officially you don’t recognize magua, but you harbor a Vampire and you know some of our lore.”
“I’m asking the questions here!” He nearly shouted.
“Under whose authority?” She retorted as the door behind her opened.
“Mine.” The king replied.
How much authority does your king have over you? You have three leaders…to whom do you owe the most?
Kate turned to the King. He walked around and sat in the chair that he had vacated. “Anything?” He asked the major.
“No…She is worse than Elle.” The major spat.
“But you are very fond of my ward.” the king replied.
“That doesn’t mean that I don’t wish to kill her six times a day,” the major muttered.
“Let’s try a different tact, shall we?” The king said. “I will answer one of your questions if you answer one of mine. I will begin. Two thousand years ago, a being of myth met with my ancestor. From old writings he understood the creature to be a demon known as the Axid, but the demon brought gifts of records and devices. He said that one day a leader would emerge that could be the salvation of his race. He thought that one possible place was here in Antre. What we know of your kind comes from him. Now, where does your knowledge come from?”
Kate closed her eyes. “Your majesty…I told you I was born with knowledge. Please, for now, accept that this is true.”
“The one that is many shall come one day…A prince in exile, a prophet of night, a vampire of light, the twins hidden within, the ancient one, and the one without family; these shall make the council of the one. The voices scream in her head…” the major was watching her as he quoted something she had read somewhere. Or was it one of the voices that had read it? She wasn’t sure.
“She’s the Vampire of light.” a girlish voice said behind her. “She is the prophesy.”
