DAISY'S POV:
I was tired of crying; my eyes were swollen.
"Dad, please. I don't want to go to California. I can work in one of your hospitals here," I pleaded.
"I am your father and I decide your life," he insisted.
Tears flowed down my cheeks as I recalled the conversation between my dad and me.
"Why can't he consider my feelings and my opinion for once?" I said, wiping my tears.
"I wish I wasn't part of this family. Everything about my life is not part of my will."
DARYA'S POV:
I don't know how to take this. 'How can I be fine without my best friend?'
"It's okay," Grandma patted my shoulder. I let the tears flow freely on my cheeks.
"I'm gonna miss her. I know her family sees me as a bad influence on her," I said while hugging my grandma, the only one I have now.
"You are not, dear. We all know how controlling her father can be," Grandma said.
"But why isn't her mom doing anything about it?" I asked, looking at Grandma.
"Hmmm, I don't know. We don't know," she sighed.
"Cheer up. At least you girls can still communicate through mobile phones and other social media platforms," Grandma added. I nodded in agreement.
"Grandma, it's just a few hours left to my birthday," I smirked.
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes in a playful manner.
"Don't forget your promise, or rather, still don't go back on your words."
"I won't," she replied.
AUTHOR'S POV:
Rowon, with his swollen eyes and red face, couldn't eat for days since his brother Ronin had been locked up and chained for days without food or water.
"At least can we give him food now?" Rowon asked, looking at Sam.
"No, any wrong move will lead to our death," Sam replied.
"Please try and eat something," Aunt Cherry said, holding a bowl of hot porridge.
"You expect me to eat while my brother is in there roaring like a beast?" Rowon asked, tears rolling down his eyes.
"He will be fine a few hours from now," Aunt Cherry added.
"Fine? Did you say fine? Won't it reoccur again?"
Sam and Aunt Cherry sighed.
"It's okay," Aunt Cherry said as she hugged Rowon.
Rowon's phone rang; it was Diane calling. She had been worried since Sam sent her home after seeing what happened to Ronin, and to make matters worse, Rowon wasn't picking up his phone.
All of a sudden, the animalistic growl that was coming from Ronin's room stopped. Rowon stood up immediately. Others did the same; they all left for Ronin's room, including Seth.
They looked through the glass door in Ronin's room. He was lying on the floor lifelessly, with blood all over his body, his hair messy with blood on it. He looked so tattered and skinny due to the starvation and growling for 3 days and nights. The heavy chains were still on his legs and hands.
"Please open this door," Rowon screamed.
Sam quickly input the password, and they all rushed in. Rowon and Aunt Cherry held Ronin; he looked at his brother's pale and bloody face, tears rolling down his eyes.
"Ronin, what's wrong with you? When did all this start?" he asked quietly, with no one to answer as tears streamed down his cheeks.
They carried Ronin to his big bathroom; Sam and Seth gave him a hot bath, something Ronin wouldn't approve of if all was well with him. Rowon and Aunt Cherry sat on Ronin's bed with their family doctor who was sitting on the sofa while they were waiting for Sam and Seth to bring Ronin, who was still unconscious.
They both carried him and lay him on his big king-size bed. There were marks of animal claws all over his body. His normally composed demeanor was replaced by an expression of pain and vulnerability. Lying prone, he appeared fragile, his features contorted in agony.
Rowon caressed his hair gently. The doctor brought out his briefcase and started treating Ronin's wounds. He was surprised; he had never seen a case like Ronin's in his career as a doctor.
"This is more than the eyes can see. In my 30 years of being in this field, I have never seen something like this," the doctor said to himself while applying treatment to Ronin's body.
An hour later, the doctor was done with dressing Ronin's wounds.
"All done," he said as he stood up with his briefcase in his hand.
"I will see him off," Sam said, following the doctor.
"Rowon, let's go have some rest," Seth said.
"Thanks, I'm fine. I will be by his side," Rowon sniffed as he cleared his throat.
"Ok," Seth and Aunt Cherry left, leaving Rowon and Ronin, who was still unconscious in his room. He continued caressing Ronin's dark silk hair.
Sam sat down on the sofa in his room after seeing the doctor off. His mind wandered far away.
"I'm confused," he said, shoving his hair back with his finger.
"Harper will never go unpunished for stealing that necklace. Still, she doesn't want to admit it. She's the reason they can now have access to Ronin," he murmured.
