Chapter 34

~Sabrina~ I cleared my throat and looked away from his piercing gaze. "Hey, you have to move." His closeness to me was rubbing on me in all the wrong ways. An eruption of butterflies in my stomach and goosebumps on my arms was not really a feeling I appreciated. He drew his face closer to me. "You need to move faster than this. Do you get me? You can't move like a snail. I don't care if my words from earlier are what's hitting at you, but get over it and move faster." He said, with his breath fanning my face. I opened my mouth to try saying something, but I closed it back as nothing came to mind. How don't I have any comeback? This guy was damn infuriating and pumpous. My heartbeat was beginning to spike, so I turned around and kept on moving. "Faster!" He yelled from behind me and I did my best to go harder. We finished the drilling rounds and I couldn't help but collapse on the floor after we were done. I looked around, and was surprised to still see some groups weren't done yet. Hell, almost everyone was yet to finish. Mr Brown walked up to us. "I'm impressed." He said while looking at the guys. "How are you holding up, Sabrina?" I was trying hard to breathe so I nodded even when things were really not fine with me. "You can talk to me. Is there anything you would like me to know?" I took a deep breath. "Yes. Yes, I think they are taking it too hard for me." I could feel their eyes burning holes on my back from what I had said. Unfortunately, Mr Brown's face lights up with a smile. "That's what's best for you, and I paired you with them for this purpose." He said, then went further to give them all fist bumps for doing a good job. I stared at Mr Brown as he walked away with a disappointed look. So there would be no one to rescue me? I was in this alone afterall. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned around to see Kael. "Are you okay?" I put up a braver face and smiled. "I will be. This is just a test of my faith, strength and resilience, right?" He nodded. "Yes. I'm happy this is the mindset you choose to adopt for this phase. It will make you stronger and you will be happy you did this and didn't give up." He stretched out his hands towards me, I took it and he helped me stand back up on my feet. "Thank you for having my back." He was becoming a breath of fresh air from the never ending crashes I was having during training in this hall. "You don't need to thank me. If there's no one to tell you are doing just fine, and you've got this, then I will gladly step into the role because you're doing just fine, darling." I blinked. Okay, I think that was quite emotional. I felt like giving him a hug but don't know how he will receive it. Besides, people were watching and the last thing I want is another trending topic of mine on their blogs. My eyes fell on Khemos and I looked away immediately because why the hell was he staring at me that way? Does he really hate me that much? Gosh! And to think butterflies had been fluttering in my stomach earlier on was just insane. It's high time I start giving him back the energy he gives me so he doesn't see me as a prey that he can keep walking over on. "Brace yourself for the next session." Kael said as we watched others finish up their rounds. "It's going to be tough, and my brother...Kehmos obviously, will make it five times harder for you." "You're trying to scare me now after comforting me, huh?" "Just spitting out the truth." I nodded in appreciation. "I will be fine. The least that can happen is getting out of here with a broken arm and leg." I said, and we both laughed. "Too engrossed in a conversation to pay attention to what's going on?" Khemos said from behind us and we both turned to see him staring with an irritated look. "It's time for combat." He said in a low menacing tone that made me feel this round was about to go down because I knew he was going to finish me off in the ring. Goddess help me! We were the fourth group in line and I anxiously waited, watching in horror as all newbies were either fainting, lying in exhaustion with bloody faces at the end of combat. Can't I just bolt off from this scene, because there's no way I'm going to get into that ring. A she-wolf from the group that was up next was sobbing and I found it depressing and funny at the same time. Why was she crying that hard? Damn. Mr Brown caught sight of her and went to her. Just when I thought he would offer her comfort, he did the exact opposite. "You've got to wipe off those tears from your eyes, pretty and face this game because no one here is moved by tears, perhaps only your fellow freshers." I looked away and sighed. "Okay, that was quite brutal." I muttered as I recalled how he had also hailed the Darkshadow brothers and gave them fist bumps for drilling me hard. When it was her group's turn, she cried to the ring and it was crazy that I still found it funny. Maybe it's because I can't imagine myself crying in front of these brothers. Khemos will literally rub it in my face and his ego will grow more puffed up. Their fight? Oh boy, she got beat up so hard and the seniors left no room for mercy. It was as though they were punishing her for being weak. And Mr Brown's parting words as she got dragged out of the ring half conscious, terrible, terrible. "That's what you get from not being able to stand up to yourself. I'm sure your wolf is ashamed of you." He said. My mouth was wide agape as I stared at him in disbelief. No, he didn't just say those harsh words. Like, why could he!? "Sabrina, come on. We need to go to the ring. Or are you already chickening out?" I blinked, and there was Kael urging me to move with his brothers already ahead of us. "No, I'm not." I said, but my voice trembled, giving me away. "A little heads up from me before you get in. I'm not going to try to stop my brothers from going hard on you because no matter how hard it's going to be to watch them inflict pain on you, you need it to get better." He said, then helped me get into the ring. "And what about you? Won't you be drilling my ass out?" He chuckled, and damn, the smile that came on his face from that chuckle was so adorable. "I will, but not as hard as they will." "Fair enough." I said with a grin, smiling like I hadn't just stepped into a death sentence. I took a deep breath after we formed a half circle once we were all in the ring. My heart began pounding faster as I realised how big the mess I was in. Wasn't this a type of violence and abuse in the form of training? "And remember, no one must use their powers on her, else you will be sanctioned." Mr Brown sounded out the warning he has been saying since we started combat. One look at Khemos and I knew I won't be leaving here half conscious but dead. He was the first to charge at me. I kept moving backwards till my back hit the ropes that were used as demarcation for the ring. "You can't run away from me, Rina." He said while bringing his face closer to mine. I would have thought he was smitten by me at this point and wanted to kiss me, but that's not the case because he was also glaring at me. "My name is not Rina." I said, but my voice was barely a whisper. "I don't care. And you should accept the name because that is what I choose to call you." He said. I was enthralled. Staring into his eyes as he stared right back at me like he could see my soul. Then just when those traitorous butterflies began to flutter in my stomach, Khemos grabbed me by my neck and pushed me to the ground.. What the hell! He was choking me and I couldn't breathe. Then I did the thing any she-wolf in my position would do. He may have one hand on my neck, and another hand restraining my arms but I have free legs. So I kicked him in the groin, making sure my legs landed on target and within a second, he was staggering backwards, his hands covering his groin while he moaned in pain. I stood to my feet and dusted my palms together. "So what were you saying earlier? Oh, I'm sorry. You must be in so much pain to give me a reply.”
