~Sabrina~
Today was the first day of my lectures and I can't say I was looking forward to it. My first night has already painted the academy in a bad light for me. I was on the phone with Fiona last night and we talked for hours. I shared everything that had happened with tears and she did her best to comfort me. Now, I have to put back the tears and heartbreak, and put on my big girl pants and go out and survive.
From the guide book I was given after my registration, I was to begin lectures at Golden boot hall. That was the first class for freshers. One fun fact about this Academy is that it doesn't have a fixed amount of study years. If you pass, you get to graduate but the spin to this is that it's really hard to graduate as Lily had shared with me.
The hallway was filled with students chatting, and laughing as they made their way to their different classes.
"I wish you the best of luck on your first day." Lily said and squeezed my hand before getting off with Aurora who waved at me without even glancing at me and that got her waving in the wrong direction.
There was just something off with her since after the initiation at the fresher's party.
I wondered what was up with her, but I shook it off and went in search of my hall.
I kept staring at the names of the halls which were written on their doors one after the other as I went in search of Golden boot hall.
My lecture starts in about five minutes and I have yet to find my hall. Lily had said there was always punishment for late comings even as a fresher who hasn't located their hall yet. The lecturers didn't care.
Silver hall. Wrong.
Shadowfangs hall. Wrong.
I was beginning to see some students rushing around like I did and I assumed they were freshers like me as well. The cool and comported ones were obviously returning students.
I ran into someone while rushing to the next door to check the hall it was.
"Look where you are going!"
"I'm so sorry." I said and looked up to see a female staring at me with annoyance.
"You seem to have a reputation of running into people, don't you?" She said and flipped her red hair backwards.
I stared at her intently to see if I had run into her since I got here or if we've met but I couldn't recall such.
She raised her brow at me when I kept staring at her and trying to rack up my mind.
Ohh... It must have been from my first day running into Khemos.
"Excuse me please, I'm late." I said and walked away, realising I was wasting my precious time.
"Damn all these freshers. I wonder how long you're going to last while being that clumsy."
I heard her say from behind me but I tried my best not to give much meaning to her words and allow them dampen my spirit.
A familiar scent caught my attention. I looked around to see students whispering and staring in a particular direction.
I didn't need anyone to tell me the K brothers were walk-in down the hallway.
My steps slowed as they came into view. My eyes fell on Khemos as he stood in the middle beside his brothers. They were all dressed in black with black leather jackets while adorning themselves with silver jewelleries and piercings.
I didn't know they had piercings as this was my first time seeing them with jewelleries on. It made them look incredibly hot, especially Khemos.
My mind flashed back to how he watched me with cold eyes as Jake had tried to abuse me.
I shivered at the memory of it. I knew we weren't friends and he probably hated my very existence but he could have easily come to my rescue or at the very least, draw Kael's attention to me to come help out. But he sat here and watched like it was a TV show while smoking and drinking.
I haven't seen him since that night and seeing him now brought back those sour memories of all that had happened that night. It was either Khemos was stone hearted or he just hates me. The reason for his hate, I can't tell.
Lily had really scored the personality card on all of them. They were all just as she had said. Kael was actually really friendly and his calm and reassuring words to me the day before yesterday hasn't gotten over me yet.
As though he knew I was staring and thinking about his words from the other day, he looked in my direction and I raised my hand and waved awkwardly only for him to look away and walk past me with his brothers like he didn't see me.
Maybe he didn't see me.
Or he doesn't want other students to know we have interacted in the past?
I looked around to check if anyone had noticed my embarrassing moment but they were either rushing to their classes or staring at the K brothers like they were under some kinda spell.
'Like you too.' Lyra mocked and I snapped out immediately and continued tracing my class.
I wonder what's even special about them. Khemos was the worst of them all with excessive pride and ego.
"Golden bo..." I stopped halfway in my muttering and rushed into my hall.
It was quite filled up and I would assume this will be the largest class in the Academy due to the new intakes.
"Stand back young lady." A stern voice said as I walked around, looking for where to sit.
I turned and saw a male wolf in a casual shirt and pants, iPad in one hand as he stared down at me looking really pissed and I assumed him to be the lecturer for this class.
Was I late?
But there were other students trooping in and he did not stop them.
"Come over here." He said and I walked in slow strides to the front of the class as all eyes fell on me.
"Your name. Introduce yourself to the class."
My eyes widened in confusion. Was everyone doing that or was it just me?
"I don't like repeating myself." He snapped and I blinked, getting right into my act.
"I'm Sabrina." I said, then swallowed down my fears.
"I need you to be bold and louder. You lack self confidence. I'm sure those at the back didn't get you."
I cleared my throat. "I'm Sabrina." I said again, but louder this time around.
"Are you without parents? No last name?" He said impatiently and some of the students chuckled.
I stared down at my feet, growing shy with every passing second. "Sabrina Zarius."
"Sabrina Zarius. You're three minutes late. You and every other student that's still trooping in. Well, I have a special punishment for late comers but I'm in a good mood today, so it will be a day of grace for you all. Try this tomorrow and you all will be sorry for the day you discovered you had special powers."
Damn. Is that all he has to say? Why bring me to the front of the class for that?
"What are your special powers, Sabrina?"
I twisted the corner of my lips for a second. "I'm feral."
"Oh really?" He said and chuckled. "Have we got any other feral wolves in this class?"
A few shot their hands up and he scanned the hall while nodding.
"I'm sorry to break it to you all, but this is going to be a tough ride for you all. I'm Mr Louis by the way and your course lecturer for Introduction to Magic Systems." He addressed the class. Then he turned to me. "My instincts led me to calling you here to serve as my assistant for this course but since you are a feral wolf, I don't think that will be a good decision. You will be preyed upon by those with greater powers. So you can please go back..." He paused and stared at me for a long time.
"No. I still want you. Everyone, this is Sabrina Zarius, the class assistant for this course and a couple others I'll be taking you guys on."
A short round of applause followed while I stared at them all with a bored look. I was supposed to be at the back, trying to save my head while keeping a low profile but I got thrown into the spotlight. I'm sure there are others who crave that and I am clearly not one of them. It was unfair. A fair voting would have been very much better.
"Do you know why I'm going ahead with you?" He asked and I shook my head.
"In an Academy where the weak are being preyed upon and not taken seriously, you will need more than super strength to stand against them. This is a stepping stone for you to prove yourself and to show others just like you to persevere and not wallow in low self esteem. Now you can go take a seat."
I went in search of where to sit but most seats were taken. I finally found one vacant seat but as I went to it, I noticed the guy next to me was Jake.
