Chapter 16

~Sabrina~ "Stand still, young lady. What's your name?" My legs wobbled, but I managed to hold myself together. "Sabrina." "Sabrina who? Sabrina Carpenter?" Oh, how I hated saying his name. "Sabrina Zarius." I wonder why they always want me to say my last name. Perhaps, to check if they know my father or family and because in our world, last names matter a whole lot. "I know your father. Beta Zarius and he serves Alpha Xander, right?" I was stunned. That doesn't sound like a good thing because Mr Brown was now staring down at me like I'm a disappointment to my father's name. "Am I wrong or not? I need to know who's daughter I'm dealing with." I brought my head low. "You're right, Sir." "Good. Now this is what's going to happen. You won't end this semester this way. I don't know why you never trained back in your home pack, maybe your father saw you as much of a princess to go through rigorous training, but that will have to change or you won't survive this Academy." I sighed in exasperation. "Why does everyone keep saying that?" "Ohh... You don't know why? Let me give you reasons then. One. The stronger one will prey on you. Two. We always have contests that will push you to the extreme if you're not strong enough." He stopped and stared at me for a long while like he was trying to understand why I was this way from merely staring at me. "I'm thinking of what to do now. Okay, this is what will happen here. You will stand back for a while to regain and catch your breath while other groups continue. We will get back to you." I sighed in relief, thanked him and slumped off on the floor. "I didn't say you should sit on the floor. Stand the hell back up." My eyes stung with unshed tears. Tears that will embarrass me if I let them fall. I was still struggling to catch my breath and was so damn weak with little to no strength, but now I still have to stand for goddess knows how long. I could feel a certain pair of eyes on me. Hell, I knew he had been watching me for a very long time now, but I refused to meet his gaze because I knew I would not leave a good impression, and I was right. Maybe he was mocking me right now. I dare not match his stare because that will get me more embarrassed. The other groups' fights ended as fast as they had started and now it was time for me to get back to the ring. "Are you ready?" Mr Brown asked, but I didn't answer. He closed his eyes tight then opened it. The look in his eyes was not calm in any way. It seemed like he was trying to calm the fire...or storm. "I asked, and I won't repeat myself again. Are you ready?" I don't break eye contact with him even though I was cowering on my inside because I knew he wouldn't appreciate that. Then, there was the honest truth. He may let me go if I just confess because saying I'm ready to fight again when I'm clearly not ready sounds like digging a pit and throwing myself inside. "No." "No. No, right? Good." I swallowed hard, and looked away. No one needs to tell me I gave out the wrong answer. "You know about the rankings, right?" He asked, and I nodded. I was beginning to get weary of this. I was the center of attention and everyone was just staring at me. I'm sure they've all gotten the perfect perception of me. Weak, low self-esteem, and clumsy. Just perfect. What a good reputation to start Wild Wolf Academy with. If this doesn't leave me prone to bullies, then I wonder what will. "Now I need you to mention the rankings of the four wolves category and their abilities so you can remember what you stand against." I glanced around, feeling less of myself and more shy with all eyes on me. My eyes fell on Khemos but I didn't linger for long and looked away quickly. There was no trace of mockery on his face as I had thought. Just a curious look that may be wondering how someone like me ended up here in the first place. "I'm waiting for you." Mr Brown said, and pulled me out of my head. "We have Redmoon wolves, Octave wolves, Sun wolves and Shadow wolves." "That's not all I want you to say." I scratched my head. That's actually the problem. Jake had distracted me during the lessons so I didn't get their abilities. "I was late for class." I said back nervously. He placed both hands on his waist. "You were late for class, but you got the rankings and not the abilities of these wolves? How's that possible? You're lying to me, Sabrina. What actually happened is that you weren't listening." He said and I could hear the students around me laughing. "I got distracted." He nodded. "Now that sounds more like the truth." "Can someone here help me educate her?" A she-wolf stepped forward and began listing them out while I tried my best to catch up. "The Redmoon wolves are the highest in rankings. They can control fire, air, wind, shift shape to someone else they just interacted with in the last five minutes, they also have heightened smell and strength than all other ranks. The Octave wolves are literally the fastest when it comes to speed. They are mind readers, and can sometimes control you with their thoughts...though not everyone can actually do this part. The Sun wolves can create spasms of lightning using their palms. The effect of these lights can lead you blind temporarily, for maybe a few days or weeks even. They can also raise and move objects and people around them. Then the last, Shadow wolves. They have the ability to become invisible, and that's why they are called Shadow wolves. That's all." "Hope you got all of that." Mr Brown asked and I nodded. "Now tell me, with what you've displayed here, do you think you stand a chance against these wolves?" I shook my head slowly. "No, you don't. Worse of all, you don't even stand a chance against your fellow feral wolf. This doesn't mean all hope it's lost for a feral. You lots have an advantage but it's hard to get there." He was now addressing the rest of the students and not just me alone which I was grateful for. "We have had feral wolves as champions from some of our game nights. So it's possible. You can stand up against the rest if you've learnt to harness the strength you possess and most importantly, how to manipulate the wolves that claim they have greater abilities." "Sabrina." The way he called my name got me jolting. "You're not backing away from this. Now get back to the ring for your combat." What! I thought he was letting me go since I said I wasn't ready. The look on his face however, got my feet moving once again and getting into the ring. My opponent got in, wearing a menacing smirk. My heart was already beating fast as I recalled the punches I had gotten from the first round. The pain and blood on my skin and mouth were the evidence still present. "First lesson, Sabrina. Do not give in to the looks of defeat your opponent may give to you. Not even the words he may say. Just focus." We circled each other on the ring. My wolf was now charged and pumping with energy so we wouldn't suffer the humiliation we first got. I held back my feral energy the first round and that brought shame to me, my father's name even though I don't care about that and my pack. Truth is, some of us were not allowed to train so often and my dad took my own case to the extreme. After he lost my mom in battle, he didn't want me to have anything to do with fights or training combats. But surprise surprise, I've been thrown into the most dangerous and brutal Academy in history, today. My opponent threw the first punch and I stumbled. Maybe I shouldn't hold back my feral wolf that much. I lurched back at him and he fell. I was surprised to hear cheers from my spectators. I glanced around to see most students smiling, some were clapping. Damn. So I actually had supporters that were rooting for me. It took a while before my opponent got back up. He was growling in anger now and I knew I had to tread carefully at this point. "You will regret this little bitch." He said and began charging at me. I took a step back in fear. "Never cower away in fear from a fight no matter how terrified you are." Mr Brown barked out a warning. I relaxed my shoulders and breathed in, then out. Okay, I've got this. Well, nothing prepared me for what came next. Within the split of a second, I saw myself suspended in the air and being twisted around. Wait...isn't this against the rules? I was getting short of breath. With the way things were going, it wouldn't be long before I gave up the ghosts. "Yes, he's going against the rules, but if there are no rules, will you just let yourself die?" Mr Brown's voice came into my already frightened head. No. Never. I have gone through a lot to give up so easily. So I clasped my hands together with force and screamed out loud, pushing against my strength. I landed flat on my face, then took a deep breath to calm my nerves. It didn't take a minute for me to recover before I was thrown on my back and thrown punches to my face.
