~Sabrina~
Fear washed up my spine as everywhere was quiet for a few seconds.
I felt a hand reach for mine and I jumped into my seat, but it wrapped around mine in comfort and I could tell it was Lily.
It was finally time for the initiation.
In a few seconds, people would start asking questions or trying to turn on the flashlight on their phones and that will only point them as freshers and they will get drilled by the returning students.
"Why's the light out?" Someone said in the room as some whispers began.
Flashlights lit up the place a bit and then the ritual, as I would call it, began.
I shook in fear as the cries of students filled the air. Lily and Aurora had said this will be nothing dangerous, so why are they in so much pain?
I don't know how long it would take before I get fished out.
Lily had said there were wolves who possessed power to feel and predict emotions and they would work alongside with the leaders of the initiation and would tell who was scared, and those also trying to figure out what was going on, then they would get pounced on.
The returning students who wished to join in the drilling are free to join in and this will go on for about an hour before the power will then be restored.
My secret from Lily, stay as quiet and calm as possible like a returning student who doesn't wish to perform in the drills of the freshers.
Aurora had said she was going to do some drills while Lily opted to stay back.
They had warned me to ease out fear and stay calm as possible and I will be fine. Not everyone knew of that, maybe a few who this secret usually gets leaked to.
Lily's hands were still wrapped around mine and that helped me to say calmly and sane as incredibly loud screams filled my ears from all corners of the room.
"What the hell is going on, what the hell is going on!!!" Someone was yelling. "Can someone call the school authorities? We need to know..." He stopped yelling all of a sudden as his screams turned to painful screams of agony.
Then the howls came. Some wolves have shifted to protect themselves.
My heart was still thumping faster with every passing second.
More howls.
More werewolves who have shifted. And that made them all easy prey.
I heard the painful cries of their wolves and shut my eyes tight.
Just then, I felt a figure move past me. I held my breath as whoever was behind me walked past.
Not when I thought I had passed the check and was now free, another wolf drew closer to me and lingered longer.
"You're not breathing, why?" A small feminine voice whispered into my ears.
I gasped and sucked in a breath. Lily's hold on me tightened. An unspoken way of saying 'I've got this'.
"Why are you so damn scared as a returning student? Perhaps, you're a fresher and may have been briefed on how our rite of passage is done."
I shook my head. I don't know whether it's okay to talk, but this is my chance else I will suffer the same fate my mates were suffering.
"This is my second year and I'm only reminiscing about the first..."
"Bullshit." She cut me off. "If you have truly spent a year in this academy, your heart won't be shaking like a chicken."
She made a low whistle sound and immediately, I was dragged away from my chair. Lily's hold on me tightened for some seconds before she released me. Fear gripped me on what was to come next.
"No, no." I cried as I got dragged on the floor. "I'm a returning student and just remembered how my first night here was."
"Liar." She sneered into my ears.
"You have to believe me."
"Alright, returning student. What are the five laws that guard every special wolf?"
I swallowed an invisible lump that appeared in my throat. I was so done for.
"Now you don't know the answer to that, do you?" She said as her hands wrapped around my throat.
"Please." I begged.
I don't know what I was pleading for but I knew I needed to plead for my life here.
I heard her snap her fingers and within a second, a jolt of electricity whizzed through my body and I vibrated from the shock of it. I sucked in a breath when it stopped. I didn't even last up to five seconds before it started again. The pain intensified and I couldn't even scream or cry, but just writhe on the floor while wishing all of this would be over soon.
The light finally came back on after what felt like years. The whole of my body was limp and weak and I couldn't even lift a finger.
Groanings of wolves in pain rented the air.
"What the hell was that?" Someone yelled out.
It sounded like the same person that had been yelling earlier and got silenced for his drilling.
"That's a way we the returning students tell the Fresher's..."
"Welcome to Wild Wolf Academy." Everyone echoed.
Jeez. This was sick. These people are sick.
"You all are sick." He yelled back like he could read my mind, and laughter rented the air. "I'm getting out of here, and no one should better stop me."
"Oh, you're free to go. The party is over now."
Damn. Where's Lily and Aurora? I'll need them to help me get back to the dormitory.
"Are you okay? Do you need help?"
I looked up to see who the speaker was but failed because my eyelids kept fluttering.
"I can take you to your friends. I saw them looking for you."
That voice sounded very much like.... Well, I couldn't recall the name.
"Give me your hand."
I stretched out my hand but it fell back to the floor weakly.
"Then I'll have to carry you." He said and lifted me up from the floor.
"Oh, thank you so much for bringing her to us. We've been searching for her around the room."
I peered through my right eyes and saw Lily reaching out for me.
Aurora was just staring at us with a dumbfounded look. "Well, thank you, Kaleb. This is indeed a nice gesture."
Wait, Kaleb was the one carrying me?
"You're welcome." He said and set me down on the floor and Lily and Aurora rushed to support my weight so I could lean on them.
"Brother. We've been searching for you." Someone said from behind us.
"You can clearly see he has been a good guy and helping out your wounded friend, Kael."
I took a deep breath. I will always recognise that voice even in my dream.
"Are you guys sure you can take her home?"
"Yes. We will get a cab."
"It will be too late to find a cab. Maybe we can give you all a ride back to your dormitory."
"No please. I'm not going to entertain extra passengers."
"It's not even your car."
"As you wish then. See you brothers tomorrow morning."
"And where are you going off to?"
No response.
"I'm sorry about my brother's attitude; he tends to be a pain in the ass sometimes."
"Oh, that's okay. Thanks for helping her."
I collapsed on my bed the moment I got to our room. I wanted to soak in a bath but was too lazy to do that. Where will I even be getting the strength to leave this bed from?
My eyes were now clearer as my body was beginning to heal itself.
"I need to leave this academy." I managed to groan out weakly.
"Oh, that's coming later than I expected." Aurora said.
"Be strong, and you will survive." Lily added, reassuringly.
I huffed. That was definitely what I was told before the initiation, now look where that got me.
My bed dipped and I could imagine it was Lily who now sat on it. "Today's been a long day. Sleep. We have two more days before lectures begin and you could use these days to recover."
"Thank you." I said to her and she nodded in acknowledgement before leaving.
I was so drained that I didn't know what to do, so I laughed. I'm sure both Lily and Aurora are staring at me in fear that I was going crazy.
This is only day one and this is what I had to face. Was it better than an unhappy and abusive home? Well, only time will tell.
