GABRIELLE’S POV
My hand fell from the door handle. My heartbeat was so loud I thought she could hear it.
“Emily?” My voice barely came out.
She stepped inside without waiting for permission, brushing past me like she couldn’t stand the sight of me.
“Surprised?” she asked, tilting her head. “You didn’t think I’d just let you disappear?”
I blinked at her. “What are you doing here?”
Her gaze flicked to the elevator behind me. “Take me upstairs. Now. We need to talk.”
My fingers twitched beside my thigh. I wanted to close the door. I wanted to grab her by the arm and throw her out. But all I could do was stand there and stare at her.

The one person whom I had put before anyone else.
