CHAPTER TWO EronI picked up the baby taigeis and tickled its fluffy belly. "I'm sorry, wee one," I whispered, very aware of the animal's sensitive hearing. "You're going to have to stay with me now." I carried him out of the nursery, where his mother lay dead on the floor. I was going to examine her body later to find out how she'd died. For now, I had to keep the little cub separate from the others in case he had the same virus his mother had died from. He wasn't the first taigeis I'd hand-raised and he wouldn't be the last. He looked up at me with big eyes, his massive black pupils almost drowning out the dark brown surrounding them. He was a purebred Highland taigeis and worth my attention. He'd fetch a fair price once he was fully grown. I never had the heart to send the hand-raise
