Five Years Later

Five years passed faster than Emma had ever imagined. Life had not been easy, but she had survived. And more importantly… so had her son. The afternoon sun shone gently through the large windows of a small design studio. Rolls of fabric and sketches covered the tables, while sewing machines hummed softly in the background. Emma Carson stood near the work desk, examining a new clothing sample. Her appearance had changed over the years. Her once soft and uncertain expression had been replaced by quiet confidence. The pain of the past had shaped her into someone stronger. “Miss Carson, the client just confirmed the order,” her assistant said excitedly. Emma looked up with a smile. “That’s great news.” The small fashion brand she had built from scratch was finally beginning to gain attention. It had taken years of sleepless nights, endless work, and countless struggles. But every effort had been worth it. For one simple reason. “Mommy!” A cheerful voice suddenly echoed through the studio. Emma’s face immediately softened. A small boy ran toward her, his bright eyes shining with excitement. “Lucas,” Emma laughed gently, kneeling down to hug him. Lucas Carson was five years old. He had inherited Emma’s warm smile… and Alexander’s sharp, intelligent eyes. “Did you finish school already?” Emma asked. Lucas nodded proudly. “Yes! And the teacher said my drawing was the best!” Emma brushed his hair lovingly. “I’m sure it was.” Lucas looked around the studio curiously before whispering, “Mommy, can we get ice cream later?” Emma pretended to think seriously. “Hmmm… only if someone finishes his homework first.” Lucas groaned dramatically. “Mommy…” Emma laughed softly. Watching her son grow had been the greatest joy in her life. He was the reason she had never given up. The reason she had worked so hard to rebuild everything from nothing. Lucas suddenly looked at her with curiosity. “Mommy…” “Yes?” “Do I have a daddy?” The question made Emma freeze. For a brief moment, her heart tightened painfully. She had always known this day would come. Children eventually ask questions. Emma gently placed her hand on Lucas’s shoulder. “Yes,” she said softly. Lucas’s eyes brightened. “Really?” Emma forced a calm smile. “But he lives very far away.” Lucas thought about this seriously. “Is he a good man?” Emma hesitated. Memories of Alexander flooded her mind. The man who once loved her. The man who had destroyed their marriage with a single accusation. Finally she answered quietly. “…I don’t know anymore.” Lucas nodded as if accepting this mysterious explanation. Then suddenly he grinned. “That’s okay. I still have you.” Emma hugged him tightly. “You always will.” •• Across the ocean, in the heart of a massive glass tower, Alexander Hale sat behind his office desk. Five years had changed him too. He had become even more powerful. Hale Group had expanded into international markets, turning Alexander into one of the youngest billionaires in the country. But success had not erased the emptiness in his life. His assistant Daniel entered the office with a tablet in hand. “Mr. Hale, the fashion investment reports you asked for.” Alexander glanced at the screen. The Hale Group was considering investing in several emerging fashion brands. Daniel scrolled through the list. “One of the brands has gained attention recently. Small company, but rapid growth.” Alexander barely looked interested. “What’s the name?” Daniel checked the file. “Carson Atelier.” Alexander’s pen suddenly stopped moving. The name sounded strangely familiar. “Who owns it?” Daniel read the information. “The founder is Emma Carson.” Silence filled the office. For the first time in years, Alexander felt his heartbeat change. Emma Carson. The name he had tried to forget. The woman who had disappeared from his life without a trace. Alexander slowly leaned back in his chair. “Where is the company located?” Daniel answered immediately. “New York.” Alexander’s gaze darkened slightly. Five years. And now her name appeared again. Coincidence? Or fate? Alexander closed the file slowly. “Schedule a business trip,” he said calmly. “Destination?” Alexander looked toward the city skyline. His voice was quiet but firm. “New York.” Somewhere in that massive city… Emma Carson was living her life. And very soon — their paths were about to cross again. ●
