Seth had suggested he would take Lillian back to campus since he was headed that way anyway and the girl found herself staring up at Lucius, waiting patiently for him to intervene.
His hand had slipped from hers when Seth had brought up their meeting tomorrow.
He'd taken a step away from her when Seth started rattling on about some other sights worth seeing.
It was like he was pulling away again, taking steps backwards, allowing Seth to barge forward, to push his way between them. When he offered her the ride, she'd felt Lucius turn away from her. To leave? He was just going to leave her with Seth? Why? She caught Lucius by the hand, feeling slightly panicked as she mumbled, "I can't, actually."
Glancing back at her over his shoulder, she could see the quirk of his brow.
