Evsey cottoned on, his father-in-law wanted to pick a fight. He assured him he was making a fatal error. The lady was an undercover police officer and they’d had a secret meeting in the forest. But he spoke unevenly and without much conviction. He was moving away from the police building and looking over his shoulder as if expecting to be cut down on the spot.
