CHAPTER 20

1500 Words
{CROSS INDUSTRIES INTERNATIONAL} “Good morning boss, here's everything you asked for,” Kaine said, handing a file to Alexander. Alexander took the file from him, his gaze still buried in the screen of his computer, “Took you long enough.” “She has a complicated record, I had to be careful,” he replied. Alexander stared at the file for some seconds, then his expression turned cold, “How’s the other side?” He asked, his tone serious. “All good boss,” Kaine answered simply, Alex raised a brow at him, “All good?” “Yes boss.” “Fine, you can leave.” Kaine bowed, and left. Alexander glanced over at the file, he intended to open it, when a knock on the door interrupted him. “Come in,” he said, and hid the file in his drawer. Sienna walked into Alexander’s office dressed all black. Alexander’s eyes met hers, and he frowned, but he was quick to conceal it. “Xander,” she called, she looked terrible, her eye bags were all puffy. Alexander got up from where he sat, and rushed to her when she began crying. He hugged her, and she rested her head on his shoulder. “I’m sorry Xander, please don’t push me away,” she looked at him, her eyes were glossy, “I miss him Xander, and it hurts.” She cried harder. Alexander patted her back lightly, “Everything will be fine Sienna, alright?” Sienna nodded, “Can we go now?” “Yes, let's go.” Today was her father’s funeral so he had to be there at least to support her, even though she crossed the line, she needed someone beside her. A knock came from the door, Alexander broke the hug, and Isabelle walked in. Sienna and Isabelle frowned on seeing each other. “Why is she here Xander?” Sienna asked, disgust etched on her face. “She’s my PA off cause she’ll go wherever I go," he replied, and Isabelle flashed her a smile. They all left to attend the funeral of Mr Vale. Isabelle didn’t say anything throughout the ride, she sat in the front with the chauffeur, while Alexander was at the back with Sienna snuggling over him like some lost puppy. She was suffocating in the car, but she couldn’t do anything about it; she only had to sit, and plan how she would get rid of Sienna for good. The funeral went on smoothly, and it successfully ended with Sienna overreacting and not leaving Alexander’s side. “Long time no see Alexander.” She heard a voice, and she stiffened. The voice sounded familiar, yet so strange. She turned, and saw a man who looked sixty or maybe seventy, smiling weirdly at Alex. Isabelle couldn’t understand, but her skin crawled at the sound of the voice. “Same Victor,” Alexander replied. “I think you mean Uncle Victor, Alexander.” Her eyes narrowed, Uncle? So he was Alexander's uncle — Victor Cross, but why did he seem so familiar? She shrugged the feeling off, she might be overthinking things. Victor turned to her,and flashed her a smile, “And who do we have here Alexander?” Alexander frowned, “She’s none of your business," “I see, I'm guessing she’s your girlfriend then.” “Good morning sir, I'm Isabelle, Alexander’s personal assistant,” “Nice to meet you Isabelle,” “Uncle, i’m also here too you know,” Sienna cried, she hated the attention given to Isabelle. “I’ll take you home,” Alexander said before Victor could say a word. He dragged both ladies on both hands and left the funeral ground. Isabelle freed her hand from his grip when they got to the car, and Alex head snapped at her. “You can go, i’ll meet up later,” she said, she didn’t think she could endure another round of torture from Alex. “Get in now,” he said through gritted teeth. “I’ll see you at home, Mr Cross” she said then hailed an uber, and left the place. ****** Isabelle walked into Alexander’s office, she wanted to get the file Kaine had brought him. She knew there would be security cameras, but she had everything under control. She found the file, but something else caught her eyes, she planned to touch it, but she sensed something was wrong. She ignored the file, and suddenly the door burst open. “What are you doing here?” Kaine asked suspiciously. “Mr Cross, asked me to check out some files.” She answered calmly. She knew Kaine would eventually show up, so he was the least person she was worried about. “I’ll take my leave now,” she added waving the file at him, then left. Kaine's suspicious gaze trailed her as she walked out, he brought his phone out, and called Alexander. Alexander picked at the first ring, “What is it Kaine?” “Ms Sinclair stated, you asked her to check some files,” Kaine said. “Yes, anything else?” “No boss.” “Keep an eye on her.” The call ended, Kaine’s eyes scanned the room suspiciously, then he left. ****** The day dragged on with Isabelle expecting Alexander, but he never came back nor did he call her. She felt pissed and restless knowing he was with Sienna. She regretted not installing a tracking chip or even a camera on him. She desperately wanted to know what they were doing together. She gave up, then sighed. Alexander could sleep with Sienna for all she cared, she was done playing his games, and from now on things will go her own way. Her mind drifted to the file she spotted in his office earlier, but she couldn't make a move because Kaine was guarding the office like his life depended on it. Her gaze drifted towards Alexander's office. Though their offices had separate doors, they were still attached to each other, divided only by a sleek transparent glass wall. With the flick of a remote, Alexander would be able to see her anytime, most times she notices his lingering gaze when she works. She groaned, ruffling her hair, she needed to stop thinking about Alexander. Even though he was an *sshole, she wanted him around always. She thought about going home to an empty mansion and a thought hit her — Damian. She checked the time on her watch, packed her bag, and headed out of the office. ***** Damian's motorcycle came to a halt, he pulled off his helmet, and shook his hair free. He inhaled the evening fresh air, “F*ck, now this feels nice.” He hadn't attended school after the kiss, he wasn't one to care, and he didn't, but he didn't know why he wanted to be as far as possible from those two. He got down from his bike, and immediately he felt something was off. He took slow quiet steps till he got to the door, he held the handle, and he noticed it was open. A slow smile crept on his face, “I guess someone wants to play.” He pushed the door gently, so it wouldn't make any sound. He stepped in, and shut the door carefully. Suddenly the lights went on, “Really Damian a motorcycle?” Damian froze even before he could turn, “sh*t,” he knew that voice all too well. He eventually turned, a sweet smile playing on his, “Big Sis, what a surprise to see you.” “Cut the act Damian.” She said, her tone was serious. Damian rubbed his nape, his head low, “I needed some company I felt lonely.” Isabelle rolled her eyes, then her lips curved into a bright smile, “Enough with the innocent act, you know I can't get mad at you.” Damian's gaze met hers, his smile broadening, he only smiled like this whenever she was around, “Now that's the Isabelle I know.” She walked over to him and trapped him in a tight hug, “I miss you so much, I'm sorry I'm not the best.” She muttered, her hand brushing his hair carefully. Damian sensed the guilt she was trying so hard to conceal, he kissed her forehead and pulled away from the hug, “You're the best thing that has ever happened to me Isa,” he said cupping her face. A smile curved her mouth, then the smile slowly faltered and her forehead creased, “What happened to your lips?” “How about we go get some sweet treats, when we're back I'll tell you everything,” Damian said, he wasn't trying to avoid the question he only wanted his taste buds to feel something sweet. “Fine, let's go.” She opened the door, and a certain figure made her brows furrow, “Darren.”
