Eli stands there looking down at me, now crowding my space. His eyes roam over my body slowly, taking in every inch of my exposed flesh, landing on the space of my cleavage.
“Wipe the drool from your face, Eli. And get to the point. I don’t want to be in your presence more than I already have been.”
“Feisty little thing,” he says as he trails his fingers down the length of my arm.
I quickly slap it away. “Hands to yourself.”
“I will, for now. I wanted to see you. You keep dodging me on campus. I had to use my little sister to get here.”
“Margaret is your little sister?”
“She is. You never got to meet her since she went to a boarding school during High School. Got into some trouble her last year of middle school. So my dad sent her off to private school. I helped her get into a college that did not consist of all girls. So, she owed me a favor, which she is almost done fulfilling. Part of it was making sure you made it to this party. I really am sorry about how we treated you in High School. It was childish. I promise from this moment forward I will show you that I mean it.”
“The absence of your presence will suffice.”
“No can do, Cherry. Now, let's get downstairs. An important announcement is about to be made. You don’t want to miss it.”
He swings the door open. I take the opportunity to quickly exit, not making eye contact with Margaret, who follows behind me. When we make it outside again, lights have been turned on, illuminating the space so I can see each person's face clearly.
“Speaking of our guest of honor.” Tate’s voice booms from directly across from me. “Eli, will you bring Cherry up here?”
Before I can turn around, Eli already has a hold of my arm, dragging me along with him. Margaret’s protests fall behind me as I am being placed to the left of Tate Cunningham.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, Alpha Psi Delta’s new mistress,” Tate and Eli say in unison, grabbing onto each of my hands and raising them in the air.
Clapping erupts around us. People are smiling and cheering. While some of the females in my line of sight are going on about how much I am a lucky b***h. They death glare the s**t out of me. If looks could kill, I surely would have dropped dead on the spot.
I pull my hand away from them. The party goes on again; men come around, shaking their hands. Pledges line up in front of me, bowing to me. Then they head away to continue catering to the guests. Margaret and Jules push through the crowd. They squeeze between the men still talking to Tate and Eli.
“What the hell, Eli? You said you just wanted to resolve things with her,” Margaret seethes.
“Don’t worry, Marge, that’s exactly what we are planning to do.”
“By making her your personal s*x slave?” Jules asks.
“Your personal what?” I ask, completely appalled.
“In our circumstance, no, that’s not why she was chosen or what she will do. Her position will grant her protection and status. During this time, we plan to spend our time getting to know each other better and proving to her how sorry we are. If she begs to be f****d, we will be more than happy to oblige.” Tate adds.
“There is no way I will be begging you. And I will not be your mistress. I didn’t sign or apply for that.”
“Your appearance here tonight did that for you. That’s what this entire party was about—scoping out the prospects and making our decision. Which usually comes at a later date while we vet our applicants. But there was no competition. We instructed the pledges to burn the applications as soon as the last name dropped in the box. You have no choice but to accept our favors and gifts,” Eli counters.
“As I can recall, you plan to apply for a summer internship. You’ll be happy to know that this coveted position comes with many perks; one of them being the status that carries enough weight to get you approved for that position. You work every free moment trying to make sure you are on their radar, and to survive in a world of money and power. Let us do you this kindness, and you’ll see how much you really needed it. Meet us here tomorrow for dinner; we will have the contract drafted and a few gifts of our good intentions,” Eli adds.
“I don’t think she will be feeling good enough to make it tomorrow,” Jules says.
“Yeah, c’mon, Cherry, let’s get you home and far away from my scheming, conniving brother and his slimy-ass friend here.” Margaret pulls me away from them.
I turn my head to look at them. Their eyes still on me, they promise me that I have no choice but to skip dinner, and they both warn me. Unfortunately for me, I can’t tell what that is.
