*Ariella*
“Right here is fine…” I told her. Right where Carter had picked me up when I fled a week and a half previous.
“You sure, Chère?”
“Yes Ma’am… I don’t want anyone hearing the car and alerting.”
“Na’ why you sneakin’ into the pack house to see him?” She asked.
I sighed softly as I leaned back in the truck seat and fiddled my finger against the black sweats I had pulled on.
“I… I don’t want the pack house knowing I’m back… I know he is going to have his whole guard on alert… I just… want to go to his room and see him for a little bit… the doctor said it may ease some of my symptoms for a little bit…”
“Na’ Chère that sounds to me a bit dangerous…” she warned.
“Will you come meet me here at 6AM…?” I asked.
She sighed and nodded. “You have my number Baby. You call me if anythin’ goes wrong.”
“Thank you Miss Anna…”
I pulled myself from the truck seat and she drove off slowly. I climbed through the bushes near the road and followed the trail through the trees to the back of the pack house.
I watched a guard circle around the outside before I bolted up to the door which led into the kitchen delivery door. I still had the key for the delivery doors and was thankful I hadn’t left them when I fled the pack house.
Everyone should be asleep now. The lights in the delivery area were off and I took a moment to adjust to the dark. Sacks of rice and boxes of produce were neatly stacked near the door. The utility sink filled with a bucket of something. Empty freezer boxes stacked beside the giant freezer that sat nearer the door to the kitchen.
I waited a moment and listened, trying to find any clue that anyone was awake nearby. After about two minutes of absolute silence I pulled my shoes off and padded carefully to the kitchen door. Slipping in and past the stacks of plates and dishes, past the ranges and ovens used to prepare food for the pack house and for events. I slipped past the cutting and prep tables before pushing through the swinging door that led into a small hallway before the entrance into the dining room and, ultimately, the rest of the house.
I paused occasionally, listening for any sound of waking wolves. Each time I heard nothing, I tiptoed my way a little further through the house to the office. The door was locked. I could tell the room was empty. So I continued down the next hallway to the stairs.
I realized how right my doctor was about my heart weakening. As I climbed my heart burned, I became easily winded. I could run miles and miles in a day before and now 2 flights of stairs caused me to pant and struggle to breathe. The third floor where the alpha, Beta, and a few other rooms for higher ups sat was a tremendous feat to be conquered.
I tiptoed past Esen and Beth’s room, which was nearest the stairs. The Alphas room was the furthest to the left and I knew that the rooms on the right side were barred from entry. Alpha Valerian was in a room on that side of the house under intense medical watch with an on duty nurse 24/7. Gabriel’s Mother also resides somewhere on that side of the house. There had been strict rules and only two maids were trusted with the care of anything past the right side of the stairs…
I’d tended the 3rd floor twice before I had left. The duty rotated between the housekeeping staff since it was a large job for a couple of people each day to tend to the third floor's needs. I knew Gabriel’s room was the last door on the left side of the hall.
I took in a deep breath as I reached it and turned the handle slowly. It clicked open easily and I stepped into the dark room, setting my shoes next to the door before I looked around.
The room was illuminated with a beam of light from the moon streaming in from the window. The curtains were barely cracked, the light only hitting the very edge of his bed.
He had a ginormous 4 poster cali-king bed with cream coloured linens and a soft blue down comforter. Underneath the blanket I watched a body stir slightly. As I stepped up, I saw a grimacing face laid against the pillow. He looked like he was in pain. Sweat beaded on his face.
I stared for a few moments, mesmerized by his handsome face. Little freckles barely visible across his cheeks as it scrunched into a frown. There were bags under his eyes, his skin seemed pale and lifeless, his hair was more messy than I’d ever seen it and I wasn’t sure if it was from him tossing in bed or from him just not taking care of it.
I pulled my clothing off down to my panties and sports bra. The chill of his room licked my skin, causing goosebumps. I took a deep breath as I reached my hand down and carefully moved a strand of hair from his face. His eyes fluttered open and locked with mine. The hazel green I adored more than any other colour I had ever seen. His breath hitched momentarily as he saw me.
I climbed beneath the covers with him. His warmth seeped over me as I placed my lips on his, kissing him deeply.
“El…”
“Sh…” I whispered as our lips parted, “Stay still… or I’ll leave.”
“Wh…” but he paused as I looked into his eyes deeply, he didn’t seem to even comprehend that I was there, he seemed disoriented.
He nodded with a groan as his head hit the pillow again and I carefully shimmied myself against his body, turning so he’d press his chest against my back. He shifted one arm beneath my head under a pillow, the other he wrapped around me, gripping my torso and squeezing himself tightly to me. I felt the gauze from his palm scratch into my skin, but I didn’t care. He buried his face into the back of my neck. Inhaling the scent from my hair as he nuzzled in.
I relaxed in only a few minutes as I entangled my fingers with his and hugged his arm to my body. The pain in my body dissipated quickly and my headache became nonexistent. A soothing feeling crept over me. The nausea finally broke, my heartbeat regulating with his and as they slowed our hearts began to beat rhythmically together. His laboured breathing in my ear became slow and deep as he fell asleep. He let out a small groan into my ear, like he had found relief. I let out a similar sigh as he squeezed me momentarily in his sleep.
“I love you Ariella…” his sleepy voice slithered over my ear after a few more minutes. “I… love you so f*****g much…”
“I love you too, Gabriel…” I whispered. I felt his tears drip onto my neck as my own soaked the pillow beneath me. His other arm slipped from beneath the pillow and gripped my shoulder, hugging me tightly.
“Stay with me, Princess…” he begged. “Forever…”
“Sh… just sleep…” I responded. He nodded against my neck and breathed out a discontented sigh.
