*Ariella*
Late into the night we had been summoned to the Silver Falls Alphas office. It was sleek, modern and adorned with black couches, plush, oversized chairs and a big TV. Some sports channel played on the screen on a low volume.
Alpha Roman went to a cabinet on one side of the room and grabbed a tray with a fancy crystal bottle and short glasses. He set it on top of the cabinet and poured whiskey for himself, And the men. I saw Gabriel shake his hand at the offer.
Beth and I sat beside each other on one of the couches as they all turned and came back to sit with us. We still had our wine glasses held in our fingers and Beth had been sipping on red grape juice the entire night. Emily sat on the corner of the couch across from us.
“Want something stronger?” Beta Nathan asked us as he set the tray down on the coffee table.
Beth shook her head and raised her glass “I’m fine.” She said, shaking her hand .
“Actually, I’ll take some whiskey…” I responded as I sipped down the last drink of wine in my glass. Nathan smiled at me as he grabbed a cup from the tray. After he poured a healthy amount he set the cup back down for me.
Alpha Roman raised his glass and cleared his throat.
“To new alliances.” He sang gracefully. His bright blue eyes scanned us and fell on me at the end of the glance. The men and Beth followed with a mimicking cheer.
Gabriel took a step in front of me, momentarily blocking Alpha Romans' gaze. I felt a spark of tension grow between them. I was sure Alpha Roman could smell my heat… if Gabriel could still smell it, there’s no way another alpha could miss it…
Everyone sat after the toast. Roman and Nathan sat at opposite ends of the couch across from us, Nathan throwing his arm around Emily’s shoulder. She scolded him for pulling her curly orange hair with his arm. Esen sat in the oversized chair next to it and Beth had crawled into his lap kicking her shiny black heels off. He gently rubbed her feet with one hand. Gabriel finally sat down next to me. Wrapping his free arm around my shoulder and pulling me to him. I watched Roman's eyes give an angry look but it soon disappeared as Esen began small talk with Nathan and Roman joined with Beth giggling along with them.
Soon the men had all had a few drinks and the atmosphere was a lot lighter. I could hear party goers still dancing around and chattering in the halls and dining room downstairs. But the boy's laughter started to drown it out.
Beth had turned her body into Esens chest and leaned her head on his shoulder. He traced his finger gently along her shoulder. His other hand gently stroked her legs where they hung over the side of the chair. Her eyes were closed and she sunk into Esens embrass.
Gabriel had moved his hand onto my thigh, occasionally digging his fingers into the silky maroon fabric. I started to notice that whenever Alpha Roman would look at me Gabriel’s hand would flex around my thigh, squeezing to bring my attention to him.
“Ah man! I can’t remember the last time our pack was involved in an all out war!” Nathan laughed along with Esen and Roman.
“Ah, that was probably a few years before we were even born, Nate!” Roman replied with a laugh.
“Like we’ve had our little scuffs, sure.” Nathan laughed as Roman nodded. “Nothing like Full Moons.”
Emily finally piped in, leaning over her thin, crossed legs. Her black dress moved with her like a wave. “Alpha Gabriel, is it true your father took out all of that little pack to the north of you guys?”
“Oh! Yeah! I heard Alpha Valerian killed the alpha himself!” Nathan added.
Gabriel laughed and nodded. “Yeah… he uh, he did.”
“You guys must have been, what, like 13-14 when that happened?” Roman asked.
“I was 15.” Gabriel corrected, “Esen was 14 I think.”
Esen nodded.
“Man, I heard that pack didn’t even see it coming. Alpha Valerian was like a f*****g ninja.” Romans laugh boomed as the boys laughed. Like men talking about sports. Beth stirred slightly and Esen kissed her forehead as she snuggled up to him.
“Back when my dad could actually sneak still.” Gabriel laughed, “Old man’s about as sneaky as a rusty door now.”
“Do you know how he did it?” Roman asked eagerly, and everyone nodded and looked at Gabriel.
“From what he said, snapped his neck like a f*****g glow stick.” Gabriel responded
Everyone laughed again, Roman slapping his knee before taking a long swig of his whiskey glass.
“What even was that pack?” Emily asked Roman.
“Bunch-a rogue sympathizers.” Nathan scoffed.
“No I mean, their name? They were so small no one cared about them.”
“Oh! Waning Moon, Right Gabe?” Esen asked.
“Yup, that’s the one!”
My heart stopped. My throat immediately went dry and I had to force back the urge to vomit.
“Buncha f*****g loonies.” Nathan jested and they laughed with him, as if it was the funniest thing they ever heard.
I looked down at my hands, my fingers squeezing around the whiskey glass as my vision started to blur and my hearing faded into muffled laughter and chatter. My knuckles started to whiten the harder I squeezed. My breath caught in my throat, and I shivered as a tear dropped from my eye and fell into the whiskey glass. I swallowed hard.
“Ella…” I heard Roman address gently, “what’s wrong…?”
I looked up to him, catching his eyes for a moment before I set the glass on the table, nearly missing it as my hand shook.
“Princess…” Gabriel began.
I stood, knocking his hand off of my leg. “Excuse me.” I said softly as I turned the corner of the couch and ran out the office door. I passed other party goers who lingered in the halls before I reached the stairs.
“Ella! Wait!” I heard Gabriel call after me as I trotted down. “Ella!”
I kept going, hitting the bottom of the stairs in a light trot as I pushed past others and tried to make my way out into the yard.
“Ella!”
Tears began to stream down my face as I dodged wolves who turned to me with confused eyes. Gabriel’s voice came closer as a big group of people slowed my escape.
“Ella! Stop!” His voice was closing in, becoming more aggressive each time he yelled. I kept pushing past people. The hall felt like it was constricting, tightening its hold around me, my throat closing as my breathing deepened. The hyperventilating caused my throat to burn and my head to pound.
“ELLA!” Gabriel’s voice boomed through the hall. His hand wrapped around my arm just as I was about to reach for the door into the yard of Silver Falls pack house. “Damnit! Will you just stop!?”
I yanked my arm from his hand before ripping the door open and fleeing into the yard. He was close on my tail and it wasn’t long before he grabbed my arm again and spun me to him. This time he pulled me to his body with his other hand encompassing my waist to keep me from running.
“Ella!” He growled.
“Get off of me!” I screamed. He backed away only a few inches, surprised by my voice screaming out at him. His hazel green eyes flicked back and forth over my face.
“Ella…” he said softly. “I don’t Understand…” he stumbled slightly.
“Of course you don’t!” I screamed, “y-you’re just as savage as everyone has always said!”
“El-…”
“Don’t…” I said putting my hand up and taking a step back from him. “How can you joke about murdering innocent people…” tears streamed down my face, I could feel snot dripping from my nose as I sobbed. I used the back of my hand to wipe tears from my face. “You just… just sit there and laugh at a pack being slaughtered…”
“Ella… my pack had to… they…” Gabriel paused as he looked into my eyes, “They were crazy…”
“How dare you…” I shook my head as I took another few steps back. My head pounded, my anger boiling in me, my wolf begged to come out. It had been so long since I’d let myself run.
I looked back toward the edge of the woods that hugged the back of the Silver Falls pack house. Then I looked back at Gabriel and he met my eyes before glancing to the woods then back at me as he shook his head.
“Ella…” he started slowly as he took a step forward. “Don’t…”
I hooked my finger into one of the straps on my heels before pushing it off of my foot then did the same to the other kicking them off my feet. I kept eye contact with him, my eyes dropped down into an angry gaze, but his seemed… worried…?
“Ella… As the Alpha of Full Moon, I forbid you.” He ordered, his alpha tone radiating into the air around us as his brows furrowed and a blue glow emanating from his hazel eyes. I could sense his aura as it flowed over me. But I frowned and dropped my chin, my eyes glaring at him as nostrils flared.
“You’re not my f*****g Alpha, Gabriel.” I reminded as I took a deep breath.
