The Gala

*Ariella* I stared at myself in the tall mirror. Staring at the dress that hugged every single curve of my body in just the right way. The deep navy blue dress was made of smooth silk, it was simple, yet elegant. I picked it because it complemented every aspect of my body, thin straps showed slim yet muscled shoulders and arms, a tight bodice squeezed my breasts into perfect cleavage, the waist sucked in gently at my hips, then hugged my bottom and flared just enough at my thighs to hide the strap I had placed around my right thigh with a 6 inch blade carefully sheathed against my leg. I had strapped black heels on my feet, complementing a beautiful maroon pedicure. My hair was left down in long, beautiful waves down my back and chest, a deep red lipstick and artfully done eye makeup. I watched Carter step up behind me. Leaving his hands from straightening the matching navy blue bow tie around his neck. He set his hands on my hips and leaned over my shoulder, staring at my face in the mirror. “Stop picking. You look stunning.” I blushed, watching my cheeks turn red. He kissed my cheek gently before carefully pushing me from the mirror to take it up himself and check over his well fitting suit. He had on a dark blue 3 piece which matched my dress perfectly. “Ready, Show stopper?” he asked as he turned to me, I was fiddling still with my appearance and he rolled his eyes at me. “Ariella… Stop worrying…” He stepped up to me and placed his hands on my hips, leaning down and kissing my cheek again. “Seriously. You look like a movie star.” “I’m just so nervous…” I admitted. “To finally face him after 10 years…” “I know Ari… But I am going to be with you at all times… and if I’m not, just send an alert and I will find you.” I nodded and took a deep breath. We grabbed our masks from the counter before we stepped out into the chilly Spring evening and hailed a cab to the Full Moon pack house. I nervously fidgeted with a feather from my black mask, it feathered out to the right with beautiful beading and shimmering jewels around the eyes in beautiful slanting eye shapes. It looked like the classic mask you'd see in the movies, and Carter had perfectly done my eye makeup to complement it without over shadowing it. As Carter exited the Cab he came to my door and offered his arm to me as he pulled the door open. I laced my hand through his arm and we began the walk up the walkway to the mansion that served as the Full moon pack house. The house was fronted by a beautiful round fountain with cherubs floating around the stone. Immaculate shrubbery lined the walls of the house with colorful flowers planted along the walkways. Topiaries off in the yard in the shapes of different animals as well as stained wooden benches with decorative stones surrounding them covered by bending willow trees gave the yard a fairy-garden like vibe. I found myself staring at the amazing landscaping, almost taken aback by how gorgeous the yard was for being owned by someone I believed to be the spawn of everything evil in the world. “Ready?” Carter whispered down to me. “As ever…” I whispered back as we walked through the doors where other beautifully dressed people came and went from the gorgeous grand doors of the mansion. We entered into a beautiful hall filled with beautiful people dressed in beautiful gowns and handsomely elaborate suits. Every wolf and human sauntering back and forth looked equally as beautiful as movie stars. “Wow…” I said as we stepped through the threshold, from the seemingly simple life of The Farm into the grand life of the Full Moon pack house. It truly seemed like a fairy tail. “You okay?” Carter whispered down to me. I nodded. “Just… star struck I think…” “You’re prettier than all of them.” “How would Louis feel if he heard you flattering me all night?” “He would agree.” He said with a humored chuckle. I laughed and shook my head. “C’mon let’s get some cocktails.” “You aren’t old enough to drink.” He teased me. “But you are.” I teased back, nudging his side with my elbow. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked me teasingly. “Means get me a cocktail.” I said sticking my tongue out at him. “That isn’t very ladylike.” He joked. “Oh, what do you care about lady like?” We giggled together. “I’d like to see you with a boyfriend one day.” “Ew.” We laughed again but he removed his arm from me and sauntered to the pop up bar which was at one end of the large hall we were in. Leaving me against a wall where other groups of people stood huddled up with each other, talking and laughing amongst one another. It almost made me jealous, seeing groups of gorgeous women talk to one another. My life since going to the Farm was mostly men. Save for the occasional female floating through the Farm before being sent on her way because she couldn’t keep up with the harsh training schedules and rules that Mason laid forth to his members. Currently Melany was the only other female in the house. And while she wasn’t aggressive by any means towards me, she just didn’t pose any interest in being friends with me. “Here you go.” Carter’s voice brought me from staring at the room, a champagne flute held delicately between his fingers for me. I pinched the stem in my fingers and sipped the sweet, bubbling drink. “See anyone of interest?” He asked, adjusting his body to be able to scan the room with me. I shook my head. “Is this how packs normally operate?” “What do you mean?” “I mean, look at all these people and all so friendly and lively… I can never remember my pack being this way…” “Mine was before…” Carter said in a reminiscent tone. “Was it really?” “Our Alpha had big parties at their pack house every few months… I’m sure they still do sometimes…” Carter’s parents had left the pack under suspicious circumstances, he was part of the Betas family of his pack, his parents then abandoned him at 15 when he disagreed with their ideals, but being part of a rogue family, he had nowhere else to go, Mason had taken him in the same way he had me. “S-sorry Carter… I Forget that…” “No, Ari, it's fine. It’s okay.” He smiled reassuringly, “It's kind of heart warming to be in this atmosphere again. Like being home.” I nodded, taking a sip of champagne to combat the dry feeling in my throat. “Let’s go mingle.” “Ew.” I replied. He laughed. “C’mon Ari.” “Do I have to?” I asked. He nodded. “If you’d like to make a good impression, yes.” “What if I want to make a bad impression?” I asked. He laughed and shook his head, “Then stay back here and look suspiciously alone.” “Fine.” “It’ll look worse if you don’t talk to anyone, people will notice you.” I laughed and nodded then hooked my free arm into his as he guided me through the house. Carter was a social butterfly if there ever was one. He easily struck up conversation with others in the party and his bubbly spirit sparked everyone’s interest. Simultaneously it deflected people’s attention from me which was perfect for me to people watch without looking suspicious. Late into the evening we had yet to spot Alpha Valerian. Carter seemed to flawlessly flow the “I was expecting the alphas to make their appearance.” Line into a lot of his conversations but everyone seemed to give agreeing statements that they weren’t sure why they hadn’t seen the Alphas of either pack yet either. Closer to dinner people had begun making their ways to the dining area where tables were made up with pristine white clothes and elaborate floral designs that twinkled with glittering tea lights. A pain suddenly shot through my stomach as we walked away from a group of men and women and I winced at it. Carter took notice and leaned to me. “Hey… what up?” “Uh… I don’t know, just a little stomach pain. I’m fine.” “Are you sure?” He asked. “Yeah, it’s nothing.” He gave me a concerned look. “If you’re in pain we can call it early.” I shook my head. “I haven’t even gotten an eye on the Alpha yet, can’t leave now.” “Let me know if it gets worse…” he ordered as we sat at a table. “I will. Don’t worry.” I smiled but the pain returned quickly, I hid it from him. Soon the servers began rolling through the hall with carts of food and drinks. As people began settling down our table filled with other guests, most of which Carter had made friends with earlier in the night. As we spoke and ate, the pains suddenly came back. An odd ache radiated into the pit of my stomach and made my gut twist painfully. I paused my chewing to breathe through the pain that radiated into my belly. And smiled through a joke told at the table. Then it hit me, a gush of warmth through my entire body making me feel flushed and dehydrated. I could feel my cheeks burning, my whole body becoming hot as the feeling took over me. Fuck… “Excuse me…” I managed to sputter out as I dabbed my lip gently with a napkin. “Where…” “Restroom…” I responded quickly as I pushed the chair from beneath me and patted Carter’s shoulder gently as I slid away behind him. I raced to get out of the eyesight of any male around me. I tried the restrooms which were occupied then turned to a long hall of twists and turns. Why did it have to happen now!? With so many people around!? When I wasn’t home to take care of it?
