Eliza leaned against the bar, her eyes on Nia as they chatted. Nia was a striking woman with long, bright red hair that flowed over her shoulders, bright blue eyes that seemed to sparkle in the dim light, and a dusting of freckles across her cheeks that gave her an enchanting, almost otherworldly appearance. “You always manage to keep this place lively, Nia,” Eliza remarked, taking a sip of her drink. Nia laughed, a soft, melodic sound. “It’s my job to make sure everyone has a good time, including you, Captain.” Eliza’s lips curved into a playful smile. “And you do it so well.” Nia’s gaze was steady, assessing. “I see you brought your handsome quartermaster again. He’s quite the draw around here.” Eliza’s eyes flicked to Daxton across the room, then back to Nia. “He’s a good man. Loyal.” “And how about you, Captain? Are you loyal?” Nia’s question was laced with a teasing challenge. Eliza’s smile deepened. “I can be, but I have my moments of mischief.” Nia chuckled, a knowing glint in her eyes. “I think I’d like to see that.” Eliza felt a rush of excitement at the challenge in Nia’s eyes. “Care to join me somewhere more private?” Nia nodded, her smile seductive. “Lead the way, Captain.” They moved to a small chaise lounge in a darkened corner of the room, the intimate setting perfect for a more private conversation. Eliza’s heart raced as she settled next to Nia, their bodies close, the air between them charged with unspoken possibilities. Daxton’s eyes followed Eliza and Nia as they moved across the room. He saw Eliza’s playful smile, the way she leaned in close to Nia, and felt a mix of jealousy and desire coil in his chest. Eliza was his captain, and while he respected her authority, the sight of her with another woman stirred something primal in him. From his spot near the bar, he noticed one of the workers, a woman named Lydia, lounging nearby. She was a petite brunette with a mischievous grin, and Daxton quickly made his way toward her, hoping to position himself with a clear line of sight to Eliza and Nia. “Mind if I join you?” Daxton asked Lydia, his voice low. Lydia’s grin widened. “Not at all, Daxton. Come sit with me.”
