First impressions; Joan's story

1053 Words
Allie is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. She had a sculpted figure which was thin. Her wasp-like waist was tapered which complemented with a burnish complexion. Her sea-green eyes had a pair of arched eyebrows looking down on sweeping eyelashes. Her delicate ears framed a roman nose added with puffy, heart-shaped lips. Her moon shadow-black hair flowed past her shoulders. She was squinting at her laptop in concentration. I smiled fondly as I remembered the first day I met her. I was desperately looking for a place to hide. Downstairs I could hear Jason counting down to 60. I hated hide and seek and only had to put up with this because Jason's birthday was today. I scuffled my feet, trying to calm my pounding heart as my eyes scanned the room for places to hide. I could hear footsteps running towards me. I yelped in fright as a tiny hand grabbed my leg, pulling my leg towards the table.  "Sorry" a tiny voice whispered. "are you looking for a place to hide?" she whispered again already dragging my big frame under the table my "NO" would be useless at this point. "They'll never find us" she giggled before turning to me "My name is Allie and I love your dress, it's so beautiful that I couldn't stop staring at you all night," she told me stretching her hands towards me with a smile. "Anyways, I am a friend of Jason's friend and..." she stopped in mid-sentence clutching my hand and shushing me at the same time. I wasn't even talking I looked at the girl bewildered. Her eyes were glinting in excitement under the table. She was having the time of her life.  "You know, this is what Lucy could have done" she whispered to me again. I stared back confused. "Oh! Lucy is a character from my book" she whispered again. "How do you know Jason?" she asked me. Turning to look at me for the first time, her eyes were glowing in the darkness. I was too stunned to speak. "Are you his girlfriend?" she asked again swiping her hand across my face. "N-no...Y-yes..." I stammered.  I have been bullied a lot lately so this was the longest any person had ever spoken to me. I didn't know what to answer.  "That's not an answer" she answered rolling her beautiful eyes.  When I wasn't forthcoming with any answers she asked again. "How old are you?"  "I am 10 years old," I said in a squeaky voice.  "Oh my God!" she exclaimed "I am 10 years old too" she answered excitedly.  "Wait! let me guess..." she continued excitedly.  Guess what I wondered.  "Your birthday is 11th July too" she finished her fingers crossed in front of her. I could feel her warmness rubbing on me and for the first time since 5th grade, I felt comfortable.  "No," I said laughing slightly at the dramatic look on her face.  "My birthday is 12 June".  "Ha...it's a good thing you're laughing," she said excitedly "you looked all frightened and terrified a while back".  "So, I am guessing you're Jason's girlfriend?" she asked again, her small head tilting towards my direction. "No, we're just friends practically grew up together besides he has a girlfriend" I shrugged. "Oh!," she sounded disappointed, "I thought you both were couples". We stopped abruptly as footsteps entered into the room. I heard the cupboards opening, the bathroom door, then the feet left the room.  "why do you ask?" I whispered back to her. "Well, you too were all over each other tonight, so I just assumed". She replied looking cautiously out of our hideout.  Suddenly, she raised her hands in mid-air, it was curled into a fist; the sign of stopping. She made several gestures with her hands and then she rolled out of the table like she was acting out a movie script. I was thrown into confusion and since I didn't know what else to do, I followed suit.  We rolled out of the table like soldiers hiding from their enemies and then we stood up pressing our backs against the wall while Al, pointed to the left. On cue, I brought myself to the ground and rolled to the left, this whole experience was exhilarating and I was thoroughly enjoying myself. When I got to the other side of the room, I looked back and saw my commander rolling on the floor in laughter.  She clutched at her stomach and doubled over with laughter. I went to the ground again and rolled back to my commander. A fresh bout of laughter ensured. I was becoming worried that they might seek us. "You've got to stop laughing" I whispered.  She seemed to remember the situation of things and quickly picked herself from the ground. Standing up, we tip-toed towards the door, while I watched my commander carefully waiting for signals. She made the sign for the left when we got to the front door. I went down again to roll to the opposite side of the wall and was stopped by yet another laughing spree. This time around, the laughter was very loud. Before I could warn Al, Jason was behind me grinning.  She continued conversing with me like she had known me all her life by the time the party was over, we were chatting like long lost sisters.  Allie's smile was enigmatic and her laughter was infectious. In all my 10 years of life, I have never spoken too much or laughed the way I did tonight. I forgot about all the bullying from school, how people laughed at my weight and called me fat. I forgot all about my constant struggle with Algebra and how I couldn't complete a single sentence in a class without crying. Allie changed me in one night. I felt loved and appreciated. She complimented me and whispered severally how beautiful I am.  I felt like I could take the world by storm. I felt amazing, I felt so good. I discovered too that I could sing, all my potentials were unleashed all in one night. I was never more ready for school the next day. Even when we parted ways that night, "she doesn't know my name" I muttered into the midnight sky with a smile.
