## LOGAN'S POV<<
I sat in the cold, dimly lit interrogation room, facing my attorney’s intense gaze. He leaned forward, his eyes boring into mine.
"Logan, please," he said, his voice firm but laced with a hint of desperation. "Tell me the truth. What really happened?"
I took a deep breath, letting the memories flood back. Memories I'd tried to suppress, to forget.
"It started a week before," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. "Sarah and I had a fight. We'd been on and off for months, but this time, it felt different. This time, it felt like the end."
Jeremy's expression remained neutral, but I could sense a flicker of interest.
"We didn't speak for days," I continued. "But then, on Friday, she called me, said she wanted to come over and pick up her stuff."
I paused, remembering the conversation vividly.
"I told her I wasn't home, but she knew where I kept the key. I guess she let herself in."
Jeremy's eyes narrowed. "What did you do after that?"
I hesitated, unsure how to reveal the next part. "I went to a friend's place, but he wasn't home. I tried calling Sarah back, but she didn't pick up."
A wave of guilt washed over me. If only I'd gone home sooner. If only I'd answered her call.
"I got home, and...and I found her," I stammered, the memory of that moment still seared into my mind. "She was lying on the floor, in a pool of blood. The knife...it was next to her. I picked it up, and...
Jeremy expression remained unreadable, but I could sense a shift in his demeanor. A spark of curiosity, perhaps.
"I didn't kill her," I said, my voice cracking with desperation. "I swear on my life. I don't know who did, but it wasn't me.
## JEREMY'S POV
I leaned forward, my eyes locked on Logan's. "Logan, do you know where Sarah went after you two fought?"
He nodded, his expression somber. "Yes, she stayed at her best friend Abigail's place."
I made a mental note to get in touch with Abigail. "Can I get in touch with Abigail?" I asked Logan.
He nodded again. "Yes, you can."
I picked up the phone and dialed my assistant's number. "Hello, this is the Smith legal services. Can you please contact Abigail and ask her to come to my office?" I instructed.
Forty-five minutes later, Abigail arrived at the law firm. I greeted her and led her to the conference room.
"Abigail, do you know who killed your best friend Sarah?" I asked, studying her reaction.
Abigail's response was sharp. "Thought you guys already found the killer. Why are you asking me questions?"
I leaned forward, my eyes locked on hers. "What if I told you Logan might not be the killer?"
Abigail's expression faltered. "I don't know what to say. I thought he already confessed."
I pressed on. "Can you tell me where you were on the day Sarah died?"
Abigail's tone turned defensive. "I was at work, of course. Are you guys trying to accuse me of killing my own best friend?"
I held up my hands. "I'm not trying to accuse you, Abigail. I just need to gather more information."
I leaned forward again. "Did Sarah tell you she was planning to go to Logan's place to pick up her things?"
Abigail shook her head. "No, she didn't mention it to me."
I nodded thoughtfully. "Thank you, Abigail. I'll be in touch soon."
Abigail stood up, looking relieved, and left the conference room.
I called Samantha, asking for her help in verifying Abigail's alibi. "Sam, can you please check with Abigail's workplace and see if she was at work on the day Sarah died?"
Samantha agreed to help and called me back two hours later. "Jeremy, I just spoke with Abigail's boss, and he said Abigail wasn't at work that day. She came in the morning, but left immediately because she had taken a sick leave the previous day."
I thanked Sam for her help and continued my investigation. I decided to pay another visit to the crime scene, hoping to find some new leads.
As I arrived at the scene, I noticed Sarah's phone on the ground. It was smashed, but I hoped that the repair shop could recover some data from it.
After getting the phone repaired, I went through Sarah's messages. That's when I saw it - a conversation between Sarah and Abigail.
Sarah had sent Abigail a message saying she was going to Logan's place to pack her stuff. Abigail had responded with a casual "okay, no problem."
I felt a surge of confusion. Why had Abigail lied about not knowing Sarah's plans? I decided to call her again and confront her about the discrepancy.
"Abigail, why did you lie about not knowing Sarah's plans?" I asked, trying to keep my tone neutral.
Abigail's response was defensive. "God, you guys should just please stop accusing me."
But I knew that Abigail was hiding something. And I was determined to find out what really happened that day.
I decided to question Abigail again. "Abigail, where were you on the day Sarah died?" I asked, studying her reaction.
"I was at home," she replied, her voice steady.
But I knew that wasn't true. I had seen the message Sarah sent to Abigail, saying she was going to Logan's place to pack her stuff. If Abigail was at home, why would she send that message?
Something wasn't adding up.
I decided to investigate further. I went to forensic department and collected the knife. As I examined it, I noticed an initial engraved on the handle - "JK". I remembered that there was only one store in streeterville that sold knives with that initial.
I went to the store and asked the owner if anyone had purchased a knife with the "JK" initial recently. The owner said many people had bought that type of knife, but when I showed him Logan's picture, he said Logan hadn't been there.
Then, I showed him Abigail's picture. The owner's expression changed, and he said, "Wait, let me check the CCTV camera."
After checking the footage, the owner confirmed that Abigail had indeed purchased a knife with the "JK" initial on the day of Sarah's death.
I thanked the owner and collected the CCTV footage as evidence. I was now more convinced than ever that Abigail was the killer.
I called for Abigail again, my tone firm. "Abigail, why did you kill your best friend?"
Abigail voice was laced with panic. "I don't understand what you're talking about. I didn't kill Sarah."
But you purchased a JK knife on the day of Sarah’s death right?
I did not, I don’t even know how to use a filleting knife she said shouting at the top of her voice
But I never mentioned the kind of knife that was used in killing her, I said as I smirked at her.
She already knew the truth was out already “ I swear I never meant to kill her” she said with tears in her eyes.
