CHAPTER THIRTY NINE It wasn’t long before the police arrived. An ambulance came next. Two EMTs hopped out. Avery flashed her badge and pointed to the shooter’s arm. “I hit him twice,” she said. “Stitch him up here.” “Did the bullets go through?” Avery shrugged. The EMTs quickly realized the wounds were clear of metal. The shooter was stitched and bandaged. Two officers from the D14 precinct threw him into a car and agreed to take him back to the A1.
