It’s Monday again. Praying this Monday is better. I was able to master my crutches and am not hurting as bad today. Thankfully I’ll be back at school today! I finished all of my schoolwork by Saturday night.
Caitlyn insisted on carrying my bag. She said she knows how annoying crutches are, so she wants to help. We are going in early so I can turn in all of my assignments that missed. I figured that would make my bag lighter when I didn’t have help.
Gentri said he was going to go with us. He argued with Caitlyn about carrying my bag, but eventually accepted defeat. It made me laugh, but also feel so grateful for both of them.
I threw on my red sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
I hate having this stupid cast. Nothing fits. Nothing looks cute.
I looked at myself in the mirror and shrugged. I gave up and just threw my hair in a bun and called it good.
We got to the school and everyone is staring. This time the stares were more of sympathy, some were still disgust but nothing I can do about that. After we dropped all my assignments off we went to my locker. The locker looks like someone must have scrubbed it good and then gave it a fresh coat. The writing was gone. Which made me smile.
“Hey, I am going to go to the gym. I need to go run since I didn’t get my morning run in. My body is begging me to go run. I’ll see you later, ok?” She gave me a quick hug and jogged off. Weird.
“I ran a lot too, for like a month before I got my wolf. It’s normal. Her distancing herself is normal too. You feel off and different when you are getting close to transformation. Don’t take it personally. I am curious if she will mate with anyone here. I’ve seen a handful of guys eyeballing her. So I guess we’ll see.” Gentri states shrugging and shutting my locker.
Gentri then helps me to my first class. “Remember you can text me if you need anything. We might not have classes together, but I’m fast. If anything comes up, text me.” He says and runs out the door.
I chose to sit in the front near the door. That way I can hear and be closer to the door when it’s time to leave. Less moving.
The two girls behind me have been whispering since I came in. Probably saying mean things, I just don’t have the energy to deal with them.
“Uh excuse me.” One of the girls says in a quiet voice. I turn around, notice they both are pretty. The one who talked to me is probably my height and very slim with shoulder length straight brown hair, tan colored skin, brown eyes with a mole by her mouth.
The other is shorter and a little chunky. She has caramel colored skin, long black wavy hair, and brown eyes.
“Yes?” I answer more confused on what they want.
“We just wanted to introduce ourselves. We heard about what happened to you, and we are sorry. Kaylee is mean and one of those who can convince people to do what she wants.” The shorter one says.
“She’s very convincing. I really thought the rumors she said were true. Which isn’t fair to you... I know a lot of people feel bad for judging you so harshly last week.. just please don’t be scared or hate everyone.” The other quickly adds with a hint of guilt in her tone.
“I understand. The unknown can be scary, especially when someone is feeding you false information. My name is Alexis.” I introduce myself extending my hand out to them.
The shorter one grabs my hand first shaking it, “my name is Talia” she says with a smile.
Then the other one shook my hand, “my name is Kiko.” She says also smiling.
At that moment the teacher comes in the class and draws all of the attention to her. Well they seem nice, I thought to myself.
The rest of the day was a blur… A painful blur. I thought I could get through without taking pain meds, that was a huge mistake.
I barely made it to my locker and just lay against it. Trying to not cry. Trying to catch my breath.
“You look like you could use some help.” A voice I didn’t recognize. I turn my head and saw it is one of the football players. Yes they have some sports and activities here for the youth. He is tan, tall, muscular, blonde shaggy hair, and hazel eyes.
I couldn’t say anything as I was in such agony and tears in my eyes.
He then helps me by putting one of my arms over his shoulder and letting me put most of my body weight on him. He then helps grab what I need and then helping me get back home.
“My name is Eric btw. I never got a chance to introduce myself when you started here.” He said very kindly.
“Alexis.” I reply. A little short with my words as the pain is progressing. It is almost as he could sense the pain in my voice, because he then swooped me up and started carrying me.
“Put me down! You don’t need to carry me!” I screech.
He laughs, “I know. But you seem to be in pain every time you move.. This way you aren’t hurting, and we aren’t being passed by all of the turtles. Honestly even the sloths were beginning to catch up!” He says laughing harder.
“Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny! Funny guy!” I say sarcastically. Which then makes him laugh even harder. His laughter was infectious and made me laugh. We were almost to the pack house and everyone around us was looking at us like we were crazy. Oh well. We’re just having fun.
He brought me into one of the living room areas they have set up on the first floor. He lays me sideways on the couch and props my foot up. Then sits in the chair next to me and puts the foot rest up.
He has the tv remote and asks “anything you like to watch?”
I just sat there confused.
“Oh. I’m sorry. I should have asked if you wanted me to bring you somewhere else. This is where I go after school every day for 30 minutes. I use it to unwind and relax. Then I eat something and go to practice. After practice I shower, do any homework, eat, and go to bed. Do you need me to help you get somewhere else?” He put the foot rest down and is about to get up.
“No no. It’s ok. I haven’t actually watched tv since we got here. Might be kind of nice. Just threw me off.” I reply.
He put the foot rest back up. He pulls 2 water bottles out of the mini fridge next to him, and hands me 1. He’s nice. But I’m confused on why he brought me here when he uses this time to unwind.
He turns on some ridiculous prank show. We both laugh the entire time. Once the episode was over he hands me the remote.
“Ok I have to get going. Do you want to watch anything? Or need help going anywhere first?” He asks seeming concerned.
“Uh no. I’m ok. I can get it from here. But why did you help me? And then let me invade your alone time?” I was curious.
“Well you looked like you could use some help. And I brought you here because I like to refresh myself after school in here. I thought you could use a little down time as well. I hope it wasn’t weird or creepy.” He answers a little embarrassed.
“Not creepy. It was nice and unexpected. Thank you for helping me! I will be fine from here. Good luck at practice. I don’t know if that’s what you say. I know the drama saying of ‘break a leg’, however that seems a little wrong to say for a contact sport...” I say laughing.
He starts laughing “you’re funny. Take it easy!” And he was gone. He seems nice but also that was a little weird.
“You have that damsel in distress going on. Men LOVE that sort of thing.” Nala points out and we both start laughing.
