Chapter 3: Double trouble

I guess I must have been lost in thought, yes again. As I ran right into Hannah and Sarah. Hannah lives a block from us.

Sarah had put her hands out to push me back. Which was rough, but if she didn’t I would have ran smack into her. When I focused onto them, I saw their faces and realized I had messed up.

“Well, look who we have here Hannah. It’s the giant freak.” Said Sarah very nastily.

I replied quickly, “I am so sorry Sarah. I was deep in my thoughts and was spaced out. I need to work on that.”

Hannah replied, “I wonder what she was thinking about. Don’t you, Sarah?”

“I know she wasn’t thinking about Sam. As if she had any sort of chance with him.” Sarah said coldly with an eye roll at the end, while looking at her nails.

“No guy here wants this freak. Which is why she’s never had a boyfriend, and will probably die a virgin!” Snickered Hannah.

I went to go around them when Sarah grabbed me by my shoulders and said, “We weren’t done talking to you. Don’t you find it rude to walk away when someone is talking to you? Hannah, why does she think she can act like this to us?”

“Who knows. She probably thinks she’s hot s**t since Sam gives her attention. He probably just feels sorry for you, this is his charity work. Being nice to you should definitely be considered charity work.” Said Hannah harshly.

“No I just need to get home to get a list made for Caitlyn for my birthday. She had asked me to get it done today.” I quickly replied. Even more quickly realized I shouldn’t have said anything.

They looked at each other, and moved aside. Then started smiling, with a hint of a sinister smirk added to it.

Hannah smiled and said, “Oh yes. Your birthday is in a week, right? Caitlyn invited us, so we will be there to make sure your day is one to remember.”

Crap.

Sarah then said, “You are so right. We will make sure it is the most memorable birthday you have ever had!” They both began laughing and I just started speed walking away.

Hannah, then, as I was going past them, said in a serious tone, “And don’t forget, Sam is mine! We aren’t exclusive yet, but we will be soon. He wouldn’t waste his time on someone like you when he has the option to have me.”

She’s probably right, but I wasn’t coming onto Sam. We just talked for a second. I hate high school.

Finally, I reached my house.

As soon as I got inside I collapsed on the floor panting. What are they planning on doing? I started running every possible thing they could do to me.

I must have looked pretty bad as Caitlyn came in and pulled me into a deep hug.

“What is wrong? What is going on? Are you ok? I came in and found you curled up like a dead bug or something. I tried talking to you. Hell, I even yelled your name and you didn’t respond.” Caitlyn said with worry all over her face.

I couldn’t even focus. Just kept worrying about what they might do to me. Are they going to hurt me? Embarrass me? I mean I do enough of that on my own. I could feel tears forming again.

“LEX!” Yelled Caitlyn. I looked at her and she looked scared for me.

“I’m sorry Cate.” I tried to shrug her off and get up off the floor, but she met me standing up and gently grabbed my shoulders.

“Lex. What is wrong? You know you can tell me anything.” Caitlyn was now looking almost distraught.

“It’s nothing, just anxious about my birthday.” I quickly added thinking she would drop it. But somehow she always can tell when I am not being fully forthcoming, I have no idea how she could do it…

“Alexis. Please tell me. You have me so worried. I haven’t seen you like this in a very long time. Please. Please, tell me what is wrong.” At this point she looked like she might cry. So I told her a shortened version.

“Ugh. Hannah and Sarah make me so mad! I promise I won’t let them do anything to you. I won’t let them ruin your day. It is just not going to happen.” Caitlyn said with confidence.

I started to breathe a sigh of relief. Caitlyn is always true to her word. I began to think of what a great sister she is and how lucky I am.. Until she interrupts my thoughts.

“Oh, and Sam cannot stand Hannah. He doesn’t like mean girls.” She said while smiling at me. Great. Now she was the one with plans.

“We need to go shopping for something to wear. I have found a few good sales. I talked to the girls, and we will all meet up tomorrow. That way we can see mom today when she’s off work! Ugh Lex, I am so excited!!” Caitlyn said hugging me and then she skipped off to her room.

Well at least someone is excited...

All I can think of is Hannah and Sarah. I know Caitlyn will do her best to keep me protected, especially now that she knows. Yet somehow, I still have a bad feeling about it all...
