Chapter 61: Sam and the unknown

I’m lost in thought. All of this is a lot of information to take in. He thought I was the one? And then I left and he was angry and upset. He’s the one who deep cleaned the house? I thought Penny did it. He did all do this, just to try to forget about me? To get over me? What?? Now he wants to just be friends? Hang out as friends?? I’m so confused.

“We don’t have to. I just want to be near you and spend time with you.” He looks like he is upset

It was quiet for a minute. “Want to go for a run? I like to go on a run in the morning before the gym.” I ask, and his face lights up so fast.

He jumps up. “YES!!! Let me go change and get my water and ear buds! I’ll be back in 10!!!” He says excitedly as he runs off the porch and down to his house. Guess I should go inside and change.

I quietly went inside and found Caitlyn standing at the counter facing the door. Maverick was sitting at the table on the phone, he looks unamused.

“Uh… hi?” I awkwardly say.

“What exactly were you thinking? Leaving the house and meeting someone when we were sleeping? If something bad would have happened… I don’t know what we would have done!” Caitlyn says angrily and with tears in her eyes.

“I’m sorry. I was just on the porch and talking to Sam.. He asked to talk to me. We are about to go on a run together..” I start to say and was interrupted.

“Well, looks like it’s a good thing I already got ready. Mav should be done on the phone shortly. Go change. I’ll get everyone’s water ready.” She commands, uninterested in anything I would say. So I just go to my room.

Thankfully I just need to change my pants and shoes. I fold up my jeans on the bed, and throw on a pair of dark purple shorts and my black sneakers. I go to the bathroom and quickly throw my hair into a loose bun.

I walk out of the bathroom and all THREE of them are standing by the door in silence.. The tension in the room was so thick, you couldn’t even cut it.

Caitlyn looks pissed.

Sam looks super uncomfortable.

Maverick looks irritated.

Awkward.

I go and grab my water and walk towards the door. Once I reach the door, I go outside and everyone follows me out.

Once outside Caitlyn locks the door. That’s when I notice I don’t have my phone or headphones..

Crap!

Oh well.

I stretch a little, Jacob always says it is best to stretch before and after any exercise.

“You two go ahead. Dad is on the phone with Maverick. Just please follow the path we did yesterday. We’ll catch up.” Caitlyn says and waves us off.

I look at Sam and shrug.

“This way.” I state as I start to jog.

“You don’t have your headphones?” He asks.

“No. Apparently I forgot my phone and headphones in the mix of everything.” I say brushing it off.

He goes to a complete stop. He then hands me one of his ear buds. “Here. Hopefully you are ok with my music.” I put it in my right ear and he put his in his left ear. That way we could have the ear closer to each other, open. He pulls out his phone and starts his music. The first song is heavy metal, I listen to pretty much everything. But it shocked me. “What? Don’t like this song? Or genre? I can turn it.” He quickly states trying to get his phone out of his pocket.

I push his hand back and say “no. I actually love this song. I just didn’t have you pegged as a metal head too.” Causing him to chuckle.

We start to jog again. We talk about everything, well almost everything. Clearly I can’t tell him about the wolves, witches, or vampires. But everything else. We reach the line of trees from last time and I stop.

“What’s wrong?” He asked, confused and concerned.

“Nothing.” I say as sprinted off as fast as I could towards the gym.

“Cheater!!” I could hear him yell. Making me fall into a laughing fit.

He was catching up! Man he’s fast! I push myself as hard as I can. We reach the gym at the exact same time, both panting for air. Once I could breathe again I drank some water. That’s when I see Caitlyn and Maverick approaching.

We all went in and worked out for about an hour. After we were done we walked back towards our place.

A few girls tried to approach him in the gym and on our way home, but he told them to get lost.

We stop in front of his house.

“You might want this back. I’ll see you later?” I ask as I hand his ear bud back to him.

He pulls me in and kisses my forehead, “as if anything could keep me away from you.” Making me blush and sending yet another burst of fire through me. He smiles and goes inside. I turn around and see Caitlyn smirking. I feel my face go to a darker shade of red. I hurry and walk past her.

She runs up and teases, “soooo. Anything you want to share with the class?”

I roll my eyes. “No idea what you’re talking about!” I start to run home.

Behind me I heard her giggling and singing “Sam and Lex sitting in a tree…” causing me to run faster.

I make it home and go inside. I want to take a quick cold shower and change my clothes.

“Yeah you should probably cool down. That way you aren’t all hot and bothered about Sam anymore.” Nala teases.

“Oh shut up!” I say laughing. “Mind your business!”

“I would if you’d keep your dirty thoughts to yourself! I mean I can see why… But I mean come on. In front of your sister and her mate? Grosssss!” She says teasing me more.

I roll my eyes and laugh.

After I shower I decided I want to eat a quick salad and then just go read my book for a while. We planned to do a movie night with the girls tonight. They will be coming over around 5 with food! I can’t wait.

I finish eating and go outside. I get comfortable on the bench and start reading my next book.

I was a few chapters in when I notice the delicious scent of the one and only, Sam. I look up and he looks so hot! His hair is dripping wet from his shower. His hair has grown a lot and is shaggy right now. He has a little facial hair that is also forming. He has thrown on a black jacket over a white T-shirt with ripped jeans and black shoes. He looks much bigger and attractive than I remember... I mean his birthday is coming up, he’ll be an adult soon. So maybe that’s it? I really don’t know.

“Uh.. Lex?” Sam snaps me back to reality, causing me to blush.

“Sorry. I was lost in a train of thought.” I say quickly embarrassed.

That causes him to chuckle, “can I sit with you? I can’t stay long. But I wanted to see you again.”

“You just saw me not even 30 minutes ago!” I state laughing.

“Longest 30 minutes of my life!” He says laughing.

We sat and talked for about 20-30 minutes before he had to Leave. “I’ll see you later?” He asks.

I nod and answer “yes. I’ll see you later Sam.”

He smiles and then leaves. Leaving me smiling like an i***t. Now I can’t go back to reading. I’ll just go get a charger. Since last time didn’t go so well.

I went in to grab my shoes, dead phone, and card and saw that Caitlyn and Maverick were both passed out from watching some old western movie. I don’t want to wake them, so I grab my wallet and leave.

On the walk there I had an eerie feeling someone was watching me. I just kept shrugging it off. It’s not even night, nothing will happen. I’m just thrown off by everything.

I go in the store, thankfully it is pretty dead. I buy a charger and leave. On the way home I hear a weird noise coming from the little forest area next to the church.

The church has a small area to the side that is all trees and it leads into the woods.

It’s only a few blocks away from home.

I stupidly let my curiosity get the best of me.

I start to follow the noise. Looking around and walking so cautiously.

The noise is mix of a child crying and a dog whimpering or something. I think that’s why I want to follow it. I want to help whoever or whatever is hurt. Plus with all of my training, I will be fine. I just need to help whoever is crying.

The noise is getting louder as I get a little deeper into the woods.

Then the noise abruptly stops…

What the f**k?

I stop and start to look around. I don’t see anything, or anyone.

I don’t hear anything, until I hear a rustle behind me.

“Hello?” I call out shaking.

I decide to start walking back to the road.

I hear the rustle behind me again.

I start to run, but something knocks me to the ground.

I try to get up, but someone pins me to the ground.

I start to squirm to throw them off of me.

It’s not working.

That’s when I feel a stab in my neck, and everything goes dark…
